Scrolls Books and Wands

Post by lord midnight »

A Scroll is a 'single use' item with a very high chance of being destroyed.
A Book or Tome is a repeat use item with a very low chance of breaking.
A Wand or Rod is a weapon equipped to the hand that causes the effect with almost no chance of breaking. Rods are typically more combat oriented, as in you could break a clavicle with one, well I know I could... Wands are handy for parrying and casting.

Many Spells are very powerful even in scroll form, powerful tomes of Great Spells exist. It is rare to find a Rod or Wand containing the Ancient Spells, and should one surface, it would be a powerful artifact indeed. Rods and Wands that break can still be used as weapons, but must be repaired before they can use the magical portion of their attack.

Please Note that spells dont have a chance of failure at this time, these Spells pretty much always work and only very powerful creatures or wizards might posses immunity to even one of them, much less a family of them or specific effects.

This spell system requires almost no additional coding. Scrolls could be implemented with only a few lines of code and the item entries. A place to start anyway. Does not have to be the only form of magic, can be purely item and money based with no need for skills or training. It could also be expanded with some read magic skills and a quest. It works well with a 'Master" system.

The main chart Im using is located here:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key ... ey=CMb5xjY

Basically Scrolls are examples that can be expanded on in a magic skill where the rank 1-7 determines the number of words you can chain.

I will be writing the switch/case for this stuff shortly.
