I think they will do Tizen phones, but not the high-end ones... yet.
Through the EFLs, Tizen can showcase a lot of nice and smooth eye-candy on very weak CPUs. I can really see people getting interested in a cheap phone, that covers the bare necessities, but feels great and responsive. And Samsung has the required deep pockets to make it possible.

I don't believe they will do this for phones. It would be commercial suicide. They would go from being a market leader to a has-been overnight.
Agreed. No one needs yet another phone os to develop for.

I believe they have done a couple of Tizen phones in India, but that's all. I think it will be a very long time, if ever, that they go much beyond that. Microsoft learned that introducing a third phone OS is a massive uphill battle, and they have the big advantage that Windows is already used extensively on PCs and tablets. Blackberry had a big market share, and got crushed. So did Nokia.

Samsung is good, but I don't think they have the pull to get a new OS up and competing this late in the game.

their hardware is amazing, but i can't stand their software...

wanna know a shocker? i'm still using my old Samsung Galaxy S3.
i had to jump through some hoops, but it's running 7.1.1. (an aosp rom, not their ugly iteration of android)

i am stunned that it still has dev support and the power to run the latest & greatest.
now let's see if they make the same bonehead move apple did by omitting the headphone jack.

I loved my S3. I had the 4G version though, that also had 2GB RAM.
My wife bought the same, and she's still sad that both have died.
I switched to a Moto X (2nd gen) that is great, except for the lack of SD card slot, and the fact that my screen's glass is shattered... and the display is damaged (readable, but colors are all washed out).
I can't figure out which one to buy next. That OnePlus 3 looks great, but is a bit expensive for me.

They make software? My phone came with some Samsung apps on it that I've never used, I suppose. I ignore them, like I ignore the Dell utilities that come on their laptops. To be sure, I have no idea how much of the interface to Android is native and how much is an overlay from Samsung. I just don't play with that many phones, and never compared phones from different manufacturers using the same underlying version of Android. Just not a toy head, I guess.

i have heard rave reviews for the OP3!
i've got my eye on the Nexus 6P though, for custom ROM support & the price.

(sooo sad they ditched Nexus for the Pixel.)

i would recommend [ https://swappa.com/ ]

i'm expecting you to tell me you know about it,
but in the offhand chance you haven't - very reliable.

I have the Nexus 6, and I like it. My wife just got a Pixel, and I like that more though. It's a really nice phone. The camera is awesome,

I upgraded from the 6 to the 6p when they came out. I kind of want to upgrade again but I can't really justify it to myself. I just hope things like the new launcher and assistant come down the line.
