Once the fireworks are over, I pour a glass of wine for my wife and reap the rewards. It's a simple but ultimately successful tactic.
it takes a lot of patience to sit back, i commend you! ;)

it took me far too long to learn that lesson - i wish i woulda knew about it sooner!

Well, the kid knows that if I get involved things have gone over a cliff so my keeping patient is in her best interest ;)

But thank you. It has taken a bit of time to get here after all the advice my father gave me :) Less than most, more than some. Trust me on the glass of wine thing though. It works!

i just stay out of it when she is home,
but when i get involved "it" hits the fan!

i am winging it, raised by a single mom & too many sisters...
just trying my best to be a decent father without blueprints.

i offer her cannabis (legally where i live)
as she is not penchant to wine, or other spirits.

(the wine and spirits are left to me)
what a tragedy... :o

It seems to me, from what you've written, that you're doing well. That mom and those sisters of yours did you well. Let's face it, we all wing it; the manual for this dad thing is lacking. :)

My wife likes her weed as well but it makes her all busy. If I need a new hat knit, I'll happily give her a hit. It's as close to legal here as we will get until later this year when the federal government legalizes it (Canada). In the mean time, if you've got a bit on you, you won't be hassled.

And I'm with you on the spirits ;) I'm having a wee dram o' whiskey right now!

haha, thanks for the words of encouragement!
it can be rough at times, but the rewards are exponential.

i am having a few beers myself & thoroughly enjoying everyone sleeping.
now i can really get something done on my AT "to do" list.

it is incredible to see people who joined so long ago still here...
it's freakin cool that you're still here too!

You know, it's great to see all of you who are still working on this as a labour of love. This little game just has that je ne sais quoi us old school gamers are looking for. Thank you.

Fun fact, I played the first edition of D&D was just D&D.

i know, right?

it's not that sexy - it's not that fluid...
but, it has "something"

i don't even know...
i can't put my finger on it?

i think it's the "love" (without a better word)
you can feel the attention being paid to the game is genuine.

[speaking from before i even joined the team]
i reacted very strongly to this game right off the bat!

now roll a d20!!!
then check your thAC0.

old D&D had so much more math involved than the new "d20 system"

I agree! All of that is so true. It's not smooth, it's not elegant, but it's got it where it counts. I just can't put my finger on exactly where that is. :D Regardless, it's fun, challenging, and frustrating all at the same time. I think that's what keeps me coming back.

Love certainly is the right word. Let's face it, if it wasn't for the love this game would have died when Oskar(sp?) left. The fact that the community is still here, small but vibrant, ever curious as to how to make a better character, a more challenging character, or challenging each other to try something new, speaks volumes. Hell, how many players of WoW would be involving themselves in naming Azeroth if it wasn't already named? Not many I'd say.

This game has it: the clunky mechanics that we love; the replay-ability; the "what if" factor in character development; and the opportunity to have a say in the development of the world we game in. It's all the stuff we did as kids when we had the time to create amazing dungeon crawls but with a bit less riding on it.

So, a big thanks to you all for working on this great little game. Here I am getting all sentimental. I should probable finish my whiskey, see if I've won my ebay auction, and head off to bed. Thanks for the chat this evening. It has been greatly appreciated :)
