You played Diablo a lot didn't you?
Actually never played any of the Diablo games. I was always afraid that they would totally ruin my life and my ability to have nice things like a wife, a job, and a house.
As for a fairy developer appearing, I'll see if I can find the time to get involved myself. If people think it is a good idea, I'll look at implementing it. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't get thrown out if I did it, because doing that work and having it in the trash can would make me very sadface.
I have too many characters to list them, so I'll just list my most important:
Template Flux
Lvl: 1 XP:56034
L&E: RoLS: 2 ElyR: 1 RoL: 2 BD: 1

It is of course possible to change this, and add dynamic item creation, but it'd be a lot of work to implement . Not just because of the coding either, but also because it would lead to all sorts of game balancing issues that we currently don't have to deal with.
I think in the very limited way you referred to would allow for some personal modifications without unbalancing the game. To do a more dynamic system would bring about all the problems that popped up in Diablo 2. People making items that are way too powerful way too soon.
We could have any one, or all, of the various smithies offer:
a) 1 point upgrades to your choice of an existing trait
b) 1 point in a new trait of your choice
each for the cost of an Oegyth crystal and some gold.
If all the smithies offer it, then you only get each option once per smithy.
It's fun to see people still on the grind for those RoLS!! Man, I remember those days... Took me over 5600 rocks to find both of mine. Weeks and weeks of effort!
LVL: 56, HP: 77, EXP: 3140223, AP: 3/12 AC: 255%, AD: 51-65, C.HIT: 54, C.Multi: 3.0, ECC: 27%, BC:40% RoLS: 2 RoL: 1 GoLF: 1 ShaF: 1 <~~~ Look at my tiny collection The criticals come often, and hit HARD!
Unsure if it was just luck, but I put 6 levels into magic finder and unsure of the number of gargoyle trainers I killed as I used reload method where I had saved game surrounded by 3 gargoyle trainers, kill, check loot, reload but I got 2 RoLS within 8 hours play time ElR took Wyrm trainer 781 and Wrym apprentice 760 killed to get and approx 5-6 hours same save/reload to get RoL, hope it helps someone, though beware 6 lost skill points hurts now
Lucky | Level 72 | HP 232 | AC 241 | AD 33-55 | BC 168 | DR 5
RoLS: 2, RoL: 1, ElR: 1, GoW: 1
ShadowFang, Silk robe of valugha, Gloves of Life force, Chaos Reaper, Wraiths Massive Claymore
Skill; Magic Finder lvl 6; it works IMHO

Congrats on your finds, but no extraordinary or legendary is worth 6 skill points. You may (if not already) regret your decision to spend that many points in Magic Finder. You did have the right strategy of surrounding yourself with enemies and saving/reloading technique.

Yeah I definitely wanted RoLS and after hours of grinding on other builds, I wasn't prepared for time to reward ratio other players had put in to gain RoLS, yes I may regret later, though my character is reasonably balanced and we will see what if any legendary items are added in next update

Well, I never regretted my MF4. Quite the opposite, if I had knew, how many levels my Chas is raising, I would have capped IF at 4 and spend more skill points with MF m
RolS and all the other items are always worth to be farmed , but where is the benefit with 1000HP (which I will have with next level up)?
I just figured out why the average number of rocks collected is so accurate! He's hiding out in the area counting the number of stones we collect then slips a RolS into a baddie's pocket around 5k! That's how he got from 30 to 17!
