We hope the game is entertaining enough to allow you to suspend your disbelief. :D

More on the subject, I figure that the gold you find on animals is just like things you haven't sold yet, but instant. I personally don't care if I get gold from them or not, as long as there is an item equivalent dropped every time for me to sell. Instant gold drop is easier than having to sell all the time, but would be the same thing.

Of course, then you could get the same people that want no gold because of realism saying that it's not realistic to take the hide off of every boar, and what about lice, etc.. Hehe. ;)

The point is, you can make a game as realistic as possible but there must be a point where you have to stop and decide how real is too real.
+1 well said, i agree except the liver part... it is delicious :D

We could take out all the gold drops from NPCs and then increase the drops for Items (Hair, claws, meat, etc) but i really think its best the way it is right now.

I saw this in the already posted ideas thread and wanted to comment.

I always though that it was silly for an ant or a bee to drop gold. However I look at it like its a bounty or whatever...a horde of minions is attacking the land and you must clear out as much as you can and get rewarded by the kingdom...

It would be tedious to go kill a bunch of monsters, then go back somewhere in order to report how many of what you killed in order to get paid for it...not to mention it would be tediously unecessary to program, so maybe it could be thought of as an "Instant Bounty".

Actually, I don't think it would be that hard to program. And to me, it looks like a really good idea. Kind of like the one guy that pays you for Izthiel claws. You could remove gold drop from all monsters (except humanoids, or "demonic" ones), and have to visit some NPC (why not the priests or guards, or a new "oracle") to report the number of mobs killed in the area since last visit (each NPC covers the surroundings of its town/area) and get payed for it. You don't need gold while you're travelling and hunting. Just claim the bounties when you need !

I think I saw a fantasy-based anime once (think it was "Beet, the vandel buster", not that good), where some oracle was to be visited after battle. That oracle could see what you did in battle, and who you killed, and gived the characters their reward in gold & exp.

The main change from current mechanics would be fixed price for mobs, instead of partially random one. We could even think of some skills affecting the money you get, or prices dropping after X monsters are killed (you killed enough, they're not as feared as before), or bonuses if you killed more than X between two visits ("wow, you killed that many of those" - like the extra health potions when selling 50 Izthiel claws). And, to follow current fashion, you could even have to complete "oracle-quests", just like "bed-quests", to be granted access to the bounties of that area.

My idea when opening this thread was that you should only deviate from reality if it adds something to the game. But this would maybe lead to a boring game.

Not sure that it would lead to a boring game...I believe with a more fleshed out idea that it might provide a bit of interest for a realistic perspective on why you should get paid for killing a bee or something. Just thinking about it I can come up with a slough of stuff to go along with it...

Zukero - put your idea into it's own thread. Work out all the details of the idea on how it would work in the current setup, and provide a changeable poll for people to vote on it, or flesh it out further ;)
