I'm not sure that statement is factually correct. :ugeek:

Certainly most fish we eat are predatory, and my Indonesian friend told me that dogs are tasty, being not dissimilar to beef. Snakes are predatory, and are reputed to "taste like chicken". :P

Crocodile also is a reasonably popular game meat here in Australia (that's not a knife!)

While pigs are delicious and definitely omnivorous, I suppose it isn't strictly true to call them predatory. However, humans, who are most definitely predatory animals, are apparently quite tasty, and are sometimes referred to as the "long pig" ;)

If you are going to eat dog, do not eat the liver. It stores very high levels of Vitamin D, enough to poison people if eaten often. (Yes, while Vitamin D is a requirement for human health, an excess is poisonous.) On a similar note, do not give children or adolescents skim milk. While Vitamin D is added to milk, including skimmed milk, it is a fat-soluble molecule and will plate out on the bottle, carton, whatever, that the skim milk is sold in. Low fat milk is fine, probably down to the half-percent, but if you are using skim for youngsters who are still growing, be sure they get a D supplement, especially if they use a sun screen to prevent skin cancer. The two main sources of Vitamin D in the US are milk and our skin when exposed to UV in sunlight. Now, with parents using skim milk to avoid fat, and sunscreen to avoid later skin cancers, some children have been getting rickets, for the first time since Vitamin D started to be added to milk.
I have no personal experience with eating predators, but have heard that most hunter-gatherer cultures do not eat them because they do not like the taste. Bears and pigs fall into the omnivore category, as do humans, rather than being carnivores, and I agree pork is delicious. I have never eaten either of the others. Perhaps I should have said mammalian predators are not very tasty. You are right about most fish eating other fish, or things like worms, grubs, insects and their larvae, etc. yet being very tasty. I have also heard that both alligator and crocodile meat is tasty but if I were eating one, I would avoid the liver. Actually, in these days of pollution everywhere, I avoid even liver sausage, which I like, because the liver is the main filter for the non-natural substances we take in and can have a lot of unhealthy stuff in it.

I think it's hilarious when my sons' pediatrician asks whether we limit them to one glass of milk and one glass of juice per day... Each of the little monsters probably drinks somewhere between a point and a quart of each daily... But, they also never slow down... Here, watch this movie... Okay... 5 minutes later in the back yard... I thought you were watching the movie... I am... ooooohhhkaaaayyyyyy...

Lol kids are fun... And crazy... But that's why they're fun! :D

Yeah, while I do love liver, I think I'd hesitate before eating the liver of any animal for which I couldn't make a reasonable guess at what its diet had been.

I guess the question about predators being tasty depends somewhat on how you define what is a predator. I had implicitly (and probably erroneously :P) defined it as being an animal which predates on other animals, so a human fits that definition. But if you define predatory as entirely carnivorous, which seems to be your definition, then that narrows the list of predatory animals down somewhat. Even still, I think some (albeit few) human groups would fit that definition, e.g., Eskimos.

That reminds me of when my doctor asks whether I limit my alcohol consumption to one glass a day.

+1 (to the gold deal not eating dog liver)

I think a certain amount of realism would improve the game in future versions, it would help to draw players into the character, especially when you're viewing on a 4.3 inch super amoled screen.

On that, there are some good suggestions in the dev. thread for crafting possibilities in future where players could further specialise in creating weapons and items using ingredients either purchased or recovered from monsters and animals.

It seems perfectly reasonable to me. Andor and his brother are really good warriors and adventurers, and so these puny animals would not be able to stand against them. But other people like the woman in the Floaming Flask Tavern and even guards and such would not be able to withstand the onslaught of all of those monsters, so the monsters killed them and you can find those gold pieces from them. Probably why they're rabid, ate too much metal. ;)

And the part about meat, if Andor's brother can eat corpses (corpse eater skill) and regenerate health (regeneration skill) he must have developed a super good immune system, probably from hours of swordplay training as an adventurer.

All in all, it's just a matter of how you think of this stuff. I find it perfectly logical, but I don't know about the rest of you.
Hey guys, I'm back.

In terms of animal's having gold, I think it's like in the TV show "Adventure Time" -- gold appears because that's just the way the world works and it's in keeping with videogame/RPG traditions.

If the game was ever to move to more of a minecraft direction, where you actually can make stuff from all the random objects. But barring that, or the raw material loot getting assigned higher prices, I have no problems with getting gold from a snake (regardless of whether or not it magically appears or was in the snakes tummy the entire time).

My opinion.. not feasible.
You'd have to make a lot more humanoid opponents [which requires finding free graphics].. then, given that blood-splats were recently implimented, you'd get into a pg-13 situation..best just to leave it as is. Plenty of other games have gold, item-dropping monsters.
Fictional game.. with that comes some leigh-way ;)

First off, I HATE LIVER! lol.

More on the subject, I figure that the gold you find on animals is just like things you haven't sold yet, but instant. I personally don't care if I get gold from them or not, as long as there is an item equivalent dropped every time for me to sell. Instant gold drop is easier than having to sell all the time, but would be the same thing.

Of course, then you could get the same people that want no gold because of realism saying that it's not realistic to take the hide off of every boar, and what about lice, etc.. Hehe. ;)

The point is, you can make a game as realistic as possible but there must be a point where you have to stop and decide how real is too real.
