"fixing it" would be desirable to my old-school roots...
but on the other hand: it's a cell phone game.

the trouble is execution.

can we come up with a way to make this "feel" like it's not cheating?
This is exactly how I feel, my friend. :D

My old-school roots say no, but while playing it's tough not to do, since it's there. ;)

I consider saving before every battle the same as save-cheating, so I guess I would call that save-cheating as well. Anyone else share my opinion?

Great point, fiernaq! Changing the save setup could get people to use that skill more often, since right now it is a relatively useless skill for most. :D

This thread made me think a lot about this (and register for the forums!). I had always abused saving ruthlessly, ensuring I never died even when I really should have. I even remember playing a very old version and saving after every turn against the Flagstone guy because I was only level 8 or so and should never have won. I think the game would be much more exciting if, for example, loading a save returned you to the last bed you slept in. I also agree that this would make some neglected skills a lot more desirable, particularly failure mastery. Just IMO though, I hope I don't come off too critical, AT is the best part of owning an Android phone!

The game could autosave to RAM when entering an area or room and copy this to the SD card, when the players saves manually. This way we would on one hand limit saving but on the other, you could "roll back" to the start of the map when you save. If you die before you've saved - bad luck. And of course, no saving while in fight!

i have no clue about memory management, i am the creative puppet...
but - i like this proposal.

+1!

i abuse the system - but only because i can, i kinda feel wrong about it...

but my desire to have strong character quickly far out weights my saving morals.

the issue is...

1. yes, we can cheat save
2. but, this is on a cell phone

so, we wanna be able to pick up & play...
but we want to preserve the integrity of this old school title.

so what now?

we continue discussion & bring it up in the meeting on the 10th & see what Oskar says.

(open source, free games = WHERE IT'S AT)

love this project!!!

After preventing the player from saving during a battle was implemented in 0.6.10 I think the saving functionality is fine the way it is. This is a cell phone, not a gaming console.

It may not be saving to RAM, but saving to a temporary file ... whatever. The idea is, that when you realize, that you are dying, you can try to flee from fight and start over if you're lucky enough to escape.

I'm not a fan of this idea as it can be abused severely :!:
Plus, it makes the game easier.

Why not remove the option to save entirely?
