Is there something about the game you **DO** like?

Post by pokey »

Constructive criticism is always helpful IF the criticized party can take criticism at that particular moment, but it's not the only form of feedback. How about some Positive Reinforcement for the generous people who have created what we have so far?

Please, forgive me for replying to my own question as if I didn't ask it with my own answer in mind. It should in no way diminish the validity of any other answers (or my own, I hope). I just didn't see the question asked anywhere else.

That said, here is my answer:
I've started a new character in order to experience the early parts all over again (in the hope that it will help me to write some Monster Pages). I must say that my favorite part of the game so far is Fallhaven. You walk into a completely foreign town, and somebody gives you a mission to complete. As you wander around trying to advance that mission, you talk to people who all have their own lives (already) in progress when you get there. They all seem to have a problem that only you can/will help with, and some of them are even moral dilemmas (HUGE bonus for this).

I have to say that while playing AT, I've realized that reaching the edge of the existing map is not nearly as disappointing as seeing an empty "Unfinished Quests" list.

While exploring the world is a lot of fun, the real fun of the game for me is knowing that I have things left to make, and choices left to make that may influence the story down the road. Quests are a great way to convince me that I have some things left to do and choices left to make. For me, the size of the world doesn't matter, but the things to do in that world do. Anyone who has ever played a good "trapped in a room" game will (I hope) understand this.

There's more to be said on the topic, but I'm too drinkified to say it just now. What do yous guys think?

Great idea!

I love venturing unknown paths, slaying monsters and not knowing if you are able to make it through or if you have to go back at one point because the monsters become too strong.

I also love the story about the shadow. I love the mystery, the fact that it is neither good nor bad and the bits and pieces that start to form a picture. The whole world seems mysterious and strange in the beginning and I hope that more will be revealed of the main storyline soon.

I like the decisions so far, but they could have more drastic effects on overall gameplay. Replaying the game and making different decisions is fun already.

This is the only game on my phone that has been constant for over 2 years. Most other games are deleted within a month maybe two (some of those I have paid for). All the others have left me disappointed with the lack of growth in the game. The built the game and that was it, they didn't really change anything or do anything different from the time I downloaded it until the time I deleted it. AT is a labor of Love and you can see it here in the forum and can feel it in the game itself. While all of us wants more and we do have to wait patiently  for it. When it does happen it is usually well worth the wait..... Then we spend 5 days and blow through that content just to wait more

Give a man a fire and he will be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

+1 to this topic !

There are lots of thing what i like;
- Best of all this game is still beta ! it will grow larger and better, I hate when the game ends and there is nothing to do. Replay value of typical game are really low :(
- Replay value of AT is great, thanks for severall option and moral choises what you need to make and becauce you just cannot build the ultimate character at the first try...
- Forum.... there are great people here and the devs... they really care, listening and helping and  you can make the differences how the game will be evolved
- Game is hard enough and much longer than typical phone game.
- Main storyline is great and forces you think about good, evil, attitudes and religious... It is dark enough to keep me happy  in future i like to see more hints abiut Andor...
- There are no limits... you can travel anywhere, you can use any items, you can grind until you drop (or are moved to madhouse by force)

I think no one made this topic before because there's so much to like that it's much shorter to list any things you might not like. So I'll just list a few of the things that puts this above other RPGs I've tried out on Android.

It's open world, so for the most part you're free to wander around anywhere you want, excepting for areas blocked off as part of a quest. I know there's also some places blocked off because they're not in the game yet but at least we know when it's added, well be able to go there either right away or after completing a quest, which just adds to the fun.

The quests themselves are well written and fun, and seem to be taking the story pretty deep with factions and mysteries.

The choices of equipment, both in store and from boss drops or quests is quite expansive.

The "make a choice" aspect of the game and the various skills give it great replay value (or multi play value) more so than games that are considered "complete".

No level cap and unlimited save slots - even if you finish everything currently available, you can still keep playing, and you don't have to start over from scratch (if you don't want to) to see what path the different choices will take you down, you can just split off into another game save. Same with the skills - you could save up skill points and then use multiple saves to try out different skills.

"Easter egg" items like the L&E, or even things like the Dagger of the Shadow Priests (there's no quest leading to it, so it's more something you stumble upon if you're willing to explore every area you can).

The "little things" like inscriptions on the graves, some of the snarky reply choices you're given for dialogue with NPCs, and some of the things they say. I put little in quotes because I'm sure they took a lot of creativity, time and care and they add to the game even though they're not strictly needed for quests, but it does how much the devs care about making this feel like a complete world.

The devs - on top of Oskar coming up with this game to begin with, the fact that we see him and the other devs (Scott, Cbtneb, Nyktos, Pyro and anyone who's helped with quests, dialogue, maps, translations, etc) doing all they can to continue making this an enjoyable game, and interacting with us players in these forums (and also recruiting from here), even taking some of our suggestions into consideration and sometimes into the game itself. How many devs do that, or try to arrange meetings on Google hangout?

And the last thing I'll list is that it doesn't take up too much space, or have any suspicious permission requests, and it's easy to just get in a few minutes of play at a time, making it perfect for long gaming sessions, a wait in line, a few minutes at work ;) , waiting for your food or just about any other situation where you have a minute or two to spare.

Sarumar,

This is a semantic comment, but I cannot resist correcting you. :D A.T. is far from being considered being in beta. I would classify it as being in Alpha at most and will not reach beta until version 1.0.0.0 is my guess.

I personally love this game for it's great split path choices. Whether it's your build stats or skills. The choice in armaments. The multiple choices for the story that pop up on a regular basis. I have to admit I agree with pokey on the note, I am not worried about if I run out of space... I know some quests will not be finish-able until later. This game has options. And RPGs with options are awesome.
The man with a plan and a pen in his hand is far more devastating than a sword is, will be, or can.
