Directly east of the starting house, there is a pack of dogs and wild boars. Kill them and sell their meat.

When injured go back to the house and rest.

I cannot take credit for this route, as it was originally posted by Pyrizzle I believe:

From Crossglen: 1E, kill dogs/boar; 1S, kill dogs; 1E, kill dogs; 2W, kill snakes; 1S, kill snakes; 2N to Crossglen, rest, repeat.

As you gain a few levels and up your gear, either add in the snake cave directly south of Crossglen at the end of the route (first 2 rooms only), or explore south of FallHaven. The boars, snakes, wolves, foxes (including the Wolf Den when you find it) are all good sources of meat.

Meat sells by far better than anything else I have found at the beginning of the game.

When you want to start building potion stock, 3rd room of snake cave (minor vials) and the abandoned house 2E of Crossglen (regular potion of healing) will save you some money.

One more thing to add to this is:
the Gargoyle trainer/masters that drop the RoLS are a great source of income and also have the added benefit of possibly dropping that fantastic ring! Each one drops close to 20 gold and have a high drop rate for potions of healing that sell for I believe 37 gold. If you go to them around level 15 or so they are an excellent source of EXP on top of that.

Another great place to make money as well as level when you get stronger are the Ash Spawns who drop the Gem of Warmth. I believe it is the Ash Spawns who drop the Black Axe weapon which is worth around 550 each. I ended up with 50 of them while hunting for my GoW. The goblins on the way down to them and the mobs that look like they're made of metal also drop a spear and a bleeding wounds ointment worth around 400-500 each as well.

You can also farm the snake cave west from crossglen, they are very easy to kill and drop a lot of meat.
