Shortsword is not listed in the weapon for one-handed sword proficiency. Is it considered to be a dagger? I was grinding for Shadowfang, but realize that my one-handed sword proficiency could be wasted on it...

Dagger proficiency is for daggers and shortswords.

You would actually play with Shadowfang?

Should be fun. Damage only 1 less then my current balanced steel longsword, ac higher and cast fatigue 20% - more than half attacks (I hit 4 hits per attack ~ 60%)

O fhtagn. But what was the point of this thing? Just joke?
It seems there is no good non-crtit based 4AP weapon in game beside steel longsword...

Maybe :D. Or maybe it's there for those that think the game is too easy, and like a challenge. For a real challenge you could dual weild them

That is almost correct. AT is not finished, so "it seems there is no good non-crit based 4AP weapon in game beside steel longsword, yet" ;)

Shadowfang requires a commitment.

Dual-wield with JOF/MT and +7 Enduring Body makes for a very interesting combination.
