I'm lvl 46 and there's not much else to do, I guess I'll go grind.

How many quest have you done so far? The king is hard but is beatable

65, +working on "Mine for the Taking", (+"Search for Andor" and "Lost treasures", those are both incomplete, right?)

Yeah you pretty much did them all. And yes those two you can not do yet
Can you afford more bonemeal? Or if that isn't working for you, I'd grind a bit more.

Kind of hard to answer that question when you don't give us the details of what your approach is.
But generally speaking, the best approach is to stand one tile under the gate. Let them come to you and kill two or three at a time. Once you start to make some headway, I generally move closer to the boss moving to the southwest.
It's also nice to load up on Lodar potions.
