Problem with quest "Ancient Secrets"

Hi. I went to Flagstone prison before talking to the guard outside. I killed the warden, explored the prison, THEN went outside and talked to the guard. He gave me the password, but i still cant approach The winged red guardian in the basement. I get that message about the tunnel being dug from Flagstone.
What should i do?

Why can't somebody just put up a normal walkthrough on this instead of a forum?
