so lets do something reasonable. when it comes to this subject, please don't talkrefrain from commenting until another 33 months have passed.

if you still feel the same way by them, i'll gladly eat my words, delete this post, throw away this account, and delete my game.
So even if I would wait for three more years, it wouldn't change one thing about this subject. This a totally free to play game with developers doing this in their spare time. So, with all politness, you might demand silence to anybody you think he isn't in the position to comment your objective criticism and you might demand to finish the project immediately even if that wouldn't make any sense at all, but this is not going to change a possible release date and this not going to help anyone to finish their work, nor does behavior like that motivate a developer or contributor for one single moment. If most parts of this community would just moan and whine about a fast release to continue a free mobile game, this project would have already been dead.

so your argument is "unless you can code android, you are not allowed an opinion".

well thats so brilliant, i won't even discuss it. on the other hand, i feel that someone who's had the game for barely enough to finish it, maybe should not question the wisdom of someone who not only has, but has explored all potentials of the said game, AND has endured many admin posts detailing how there was new content and exciting news just around the corner.
Heck, i mean, the guy should be giving out medical advice since we don't hold experience of any value anymore.

giving away the app for free doesn't shield you from criticism; and while i tried to keep my criticism to a constructive level (feel free to read my previous posts), at this time i don't think anyone (of us old timers) can be expected to wait any longer.
Sure, people who have just gotten the app maybe. People who are using it as their pet "my first coding" project as well. But 3 years and no development whatsoever in the main questlines is ridiculous, you surely don't expect me to have any enthusiasm for it once it comes out in 2018, right? *

or maybe you can go tell all those people who got so mad because duke nukem got delayed 15 years, or half life 3 which hasnt even been started, that they were WRONG! and lol you are totally right.

six months is long. one year is ridiculous. 3 years needs to go on wikipedia.
"work in progress" means "people are actually doing stuff which WILL produce a finished product within a REASONABLE time". your concept of reasonable time and mine do not coincide; but yours doesnt coincide with anyone's.

Here's a what. Edit the App Store page thus: "A Work In Progress which will not likely be developed further if not in a amateur, sporadic way and which averages one update every two years."

According to you this is totally normal, ok, and should not result in any less downloads.

*i honestly believe there will never be another update. but, in 2 years, ill come back and we'l see who was right.

edit:OH LOOK, somebody bothered to post.

i was just as defensive of AT when, many years ago, it was "something done in the spare time". But the truth (of which you know nothing because you have not experienced, just like i have not experienced dying in the vacuum of space, or surfing a lava explosion) is that the game is NOT being done in the spare time, any more than erosion is destroying the building you live in.

But thats not why i don't like you. That comes from "hey, i'm new here, there's a guy who's been here 3 years and he seems to be upset, maybe i should listen to what he has to say, because god knows how much he has experienced of AT in these long, fatiguing three years" is something which will NEVER come out from you, self entitled crusader of your new found cause.

Do you KNOW how many developers meetings there have been with OMFGBBQ is teh new stuffz0r is soooo exciting, new rules, new guns, alienz, cats! and all the mods you wanted they next week!
wait, thats a redundant question because you don't know.
SO maybe acknowledge that you don't know because your input of two-months guy is totally worthless to me.

heck .. you've been here two months, you think you already know everything .. i guess the next two years of waiting are going to be really hard for you.

I don't get your point. When my input is so useless, why do you feel the need to even comment my posts then?

And really, you don't like me? I didn't even look on how long you have been registered and honestly I don't care. But next time I'm going to comment I'm going to try to figure out the wisdom I'm questioning with having a look at the registering date of the poster (Seriously, you are posting on a forum for a game and using words like wisdom even comparing an android game to the developement work of commercial games like Duke Nukem or Half Life...).

@Zukero:
Using the swear words for silence was just speaking out his lovely letters, even in a nicer way...

Please gentlemen....

I can understand why this debate is so passionate, but please, keep it family-friendly, as the rest of the forum.

@SirGrindsalot : The game is being worked on, indeed in a very amateurish way these past months, but being worked on. Oskar stopped working on it, and we could only guess that it was some kind of burnout on his side. He really spent a huge lot of time on the project, but at some point just couldn't keep up, or so do we (the rest of the dev team) think.
So, currently, I'm the only developer left, and I had no android experience prior to contributing to AT. At one point, while I was just a rookie team member, I had to choose between becoming the maintainer of the project, or letting it die.
I chose to keep up, and so did the rest of the team.
It's been rough taking over a project like this, with no help but google's (not the corporate google, just, you know, search for help on google).

So yeah, no release in a while. Many meetings to agree over what we want to include in the next release, yet so little time to actually create it. This is only one of the reasons why we kinda paused these meetings. It's time to get things done rather than talk about them.

As said by others in this very thread, we do it for free, and we do have lives besides AT. I preferred to value commitment in the long term, rather than burst out a few releases and burn out.

I can understand your frustration, and I feel myself frustrated not to have been able to push out a new release yet.

We'll get something out, someday, but we want it to be worth the legacy. It most certainly won't be the one release that makes up for all the time you waited, but I sure hope it won't waste a good base material. There's no way I'll push something on GPlay that was quickly put together just to give an end to the main storyline.

Quality over quantity.

What I can't understand, however, is how you can feel "insulted" by people who gave away a game for free. If I'm offered a free beer, I'm free to drink it or not, but I won't feel insulted because it's a half pint and not a full one...

You can call us Duke Nukem Forever, Vaporware, or even abandonware, as long as we have the strength to work on the game, and a few players to download it, we'll move forward.

You don't need to be able to "code android" to voice an opinion, those are for free :p
You also don't need to "code android" to contribute, there are many other ways. lakra's fan-fictions are one example.

and also the long term members are going to be most happy when the new version of AT is released but SirGrindsalot think of the situation when you just become happy after seeing the new version, you downloaded it and 2 or 3 hours of playing you say "heck, just this was the all. thats what happens when the main developer leaves". so any developer that is still working on AT surely didn't want to let that happen.
also think that sdeavney dedicated this site to forum members and if he wanted he easily may had made it a source of his side income with all thos nonsense ads.
also Ian hasse who made so much nice maps in his free time when he can gain some extra knowledge or just go outside and enjoy rather making maps.
similarly Zukero is spending a big part of his time in this project rather enjoying his life.
so what is the reason all these peoples and many more are contributing to this project like a one sided lover? ofcourse for the love and joy this community is offering of which the most part comes from you old timer poster. you guys have raised this community's morale so high that people can learn what patient is really from this community. and now just don't work down all these things.
I have spent so much time reading most of the forum posts that now I regret why haven't I joined before.
so please don't fight over the who is old poster and who is new, in that way you are destroying what you once give to this community.

I'm another who will put forward my admiration and appreciation to the current dev team. The fact that you guys are on here keeping us informed, asking for ideas, and, most importantly, are spending your free time developing a game that many of us so thoroughly enjoy chucking around on in our spare time, indicates to me that you're all deserving of some pretty big kudos. This game is not abandoned; it is merely in a longer development period.

I'll also echo the sentiments of others here. If you want to complain about the pace of development for a free app, just help the dev team out. Take something off their plate to help pick up the pace. Sure you can complain, just don't expect the rest of us to take it to seriously.

I'm not sure if that was aimed at lakra or me, since nobody has suggested that. My suggestion was that people that have only taken out of the pot, and put nothing into the pot, should not be complaining that others have not put even more into the pot so that they can take even more out. If there is never another release you still got something that you enjoyed, for free.

Contributing to the game does not require coding. A lot of what is needed at the moment is new content. New maps, new quests, new NPCs, new monsters, new items. None of that requires coding.

3 years have passed, zero updates.

Ill come back in 2020 to remind you 2 more will have passed and there is still unreleased content out there waiting to be released, but being held because "it needs polishing".

OK. If you do that you will have missed the release though.

I guess this is what passes as offering help for some people. Well, if that's what he can contribute then I suppose we should thank him. Setting one's calendar with an item two years in the future shows dedication.
