This is very similar to the suggestion in the fist thread Tomcat pointed to (Damage per Round). This is one way to rebalance the weapon damage, but not the only one.
Tomcat wrote:I'm pretty sure that the intent is still there to revamp the combat system someday, but adding content seems to be still the bigger priority.
It is still on the list, but not for the next release.
Tomcat wrote:And yes, any change in system will likely mean changing weapon stats etc across the board.
Yes, regardless of which approach is taken, all the weapons (or most of them, anyway) will still have to be adjusted.
Tomcat wrote:Quick strike dagger is what I find to be the best backup to DotSP for crit immune areas. With Combat Speed 2, you get 6 swings instead of 4, which helps make up for the loss of crit damage. Or three swings and then step back, if you are underpowered.
Nah. Balanced Steel Sword. It gives you 32 AC, but if you have One-handed sword proficiency that becomes 41 AC. And if you dual wield them, and have Specialization: Dual wield, you get 114 AC from the two swords 8-)

BSS is a great option, too, but I like getting the benefit of dagger proficiency with both primary and backup. To start out, I like to go for a crit build, so flagstone's pride is a good choice, too, until I'm strong enough to snag the DotSP. I forget now if BSS is a crit weapon, but I think not, which is why I didn't go for it the current build, though I've used it before.

Yes, you have a point. I paid the price for both dagger proficiency and one-handed sword proficiency. That gives me a lot of flexibility in choosing weapons, but I had to pay for it.

The reason a DotSP and QSD backup doesn't work well for me is b/c my largest objective is defeating Hira'zinn with ease, which has immunity to criticals and DR in the 20's. You would need to invest significantly more AD into to your character and take away from AC and/or BC (if defeating it by lvl 40 was your mission). Keeping HP, AC, and BC the same, a sacrifice of AD for Combat Speed will not be beneficial.

Skullcrusher has a little CC and does tons of damage per hit.

What about upgrading equipment instead of base stats? HP is the exception. We could have other base stats like
Integrity: chance to receive 20% less damage
Courage: chance to attack twice but with 50% reduced AD
Deflection: chance to block an enemies critical strike

A crit build has its strengths and weaknesses, like any other. My current one started out with a secondary emphasis on DR, but I'm finding that Evasion would likely be a better combo for big crit immune monsters, to more reliably pull off the attack and retreat method, without having to burn potions when your fleeing fails (or cheat and reload constantly lol).

I agree. But my main character has Ev3, so perhaps I'm biased :D

Humorously I went another direction and managed to burn through the Alleceph pretty decently and finish the "I have it in me" quest without a problem. Instead of Quick Strike, I went with the sharp steel dagger and reinforced steel gloves. The added damage pushed me well into the 30's per hit and my block chance jumped into the 130's. Win-win. And burning through potions is what I do best..... :D

Let me reiterate b/c it might be overlooked:

You'd have to rename Courage, since there is already an Actor Condition called that. Fury?

But not sure what you mean calling these additional base stats..tons you could actually choose on level up? Sorry if I lost your meaning further back in the thread...
