Newbie here,
Is this game ever going to be available on desktop ?
A GNU/Linux build or instructions to build it from source ?
As I understand it, it is GPL licensed so it should be possible.
Is there a linux build available ?

Nope. It's pure Android, and porting to desktop is too much effort with no guarantee of a correct fidelity to the original game.
You can however play it in an android-x86 VM in VirtualBox or other virtualization technology. That's what I do for debug. You can either build from source, install from gplay or sideload an APK with this setup.

AS well as probably scaling up the graphics. I have seen that has been the death of many an rpg game, especially the free ones.

Please forgive me for responding to a post from over 2 years ago, but... have you considered installing an Android Emulator on your PC and running it through the emulator? I use the emulator called NOX (v6) and it works fabulously. I've heard of some other emulators as well that you could try. For instance:
7 Best Android Emulators for Windows You Can Use
Nox 6 Player, BlueStacks, MEmu, Remix OS Player, AMIDuOS, LeapDroid, or Genymotion
Just Google: What android emulators are available for Windows
That should give you a number of options. I've been using NOX for a few days now and it's GREAT for playing Andor's Trail with.
