So just making 100% sure, it is absolutely gone? I moved the save file from my internal memory to my SD, and then when I put it in my new phone, it loaded that as the save game. but then when I put my SD card back in my old phone, it loaded that as my save game too. Even though I had never clicked "load", it was there as the "continue game", with my other one nowhere in sight.

It is gone. No doubt about it.
As an advice for the future, save early, save often, and keep multiple saves at different points of your adventure. You have unlimited save slots and they are so light storage-wise that they are virtually free.
