I'm doing that and there's a room by the top after a completely empty dark room with a exit to the left. The cheat map shows go straight left but im dead in my tracks. I have gotten through on another save with the same version btw.

Don't trust cheat maps you may have found. I changed the maze after I had seen such a map somewhere.
Better try to find the way for yourself.
As a hint you might drop items to mark your path.
