The critical can be worth more than +3 dmg. Especially if you sold Flagstones Pride and/or Venomous Dagger.

Starting the RoLS debate... 8-)

First of all I have to agree that for a high level hero BWM is currently the best way to maximize the xp per minute rate.
Secondly I want to state that IMO a RoLS is around 1,5 times better than a DR+6. (without CC around 1,2) So if I could get one with reasonable efforts I would try it.

Here are some thoughts:
1) There is play 'n' pause gameplay. (clear an area, pause for 2 minutes do something else [surfing the web, posting here, eating a banana :D ] and continue playing) When you do it you can increase your xp per minute rate in the gargoyle cave. (you would also improve the RoLS per minute rate dramatically) You cannot increase the xp per minute rate very much in BWM.

When you have a RoLS and use play 'n' pause gameplay, depending on your display timeout you could get 5, 10 or even 20 HP for each pause.

2) I find it hard to handle the minor fatigue in BWM sometimes I die loosing several thousand xp points. (Mh I am low on health, I should go home. This is the last one I will pwn... - Ooooops. :o ) I play risky sometimes and can't do anything against it. (As a result I would die more often and loose more potions there.)

3) Perhaps you have a higher xp per minute rate in BWM, the question is if you are motivated to play. If you would grind 5 hours in the gargoyle cave because you are motivated to get a RoLS, this would result in a higher xp gain than you will get when you stop grinding in BWM after 30 minutes. (because it was boring)
I know there are other motivators around. Leveling is also a motivator, but at level 50 you need to play a whole hour to level up in BWM. :(

Look at the top 7 players in the highscore list. They all tried to get a unique item.

4) Sooner or later you will need a huge amount of xp to gain a level. Then trying to get a RoLS would be worth it. ;)

5)

 IMO this is not the best way to do it. I can do the cave and go back to the tavern in less than 2 minutes. So you could probably get some more xp from it.

Regardless I think that it explains what the pro's and con's are between the two. Extra damage is, well, EXTRA DAMAGE. While the regenerative attribute is nice, 10 hp a min is nothing in the face of mobs when you are grinding, for example, ElyR or level gaining. Time wasted waiting for your hp to rise or having to make extra hits because of lower AD is time wasted that could have been used to kill mobs. You will have large amounts of gold, using it on Bonemeal potions, while taking 5 AP per use per round, is a faster healing agent. The boost to AC for lower levels is a definite plus and so is the AD, while the extra CD is welcomed at any level.
Whilst I agree at higher levels the regeneration is less important, the fact remains that in number of levels, 6 AD = 3 AD + 15% AC, so the crit bonus and regeneration are just extras. Crit chance is important regardless of level and the new monsters are harder to hit than before, so a higher AC is required. So, it is not solely down to AD, as you must hit the mob first. Thus the RoLS is viable at all levels, until something better comes along.

Any grind risks trivialising future content, but grinding in the caverns would level you far slower than on the mountain. Besides, the RoLS is only 2-4 levels better than the +6 ring, so overall I suspect in most cases, by the time you got a RoLS, another playing grinding the mountain, would be far ahead of you in levels.

I agree it might make some of the monsters less challenging to kill, but I personally don't consider that a big enough factor in the game for future content to be trivialized.

My main fun from the game is in the quests, which involved talking to the right people to get them started, searching for whatever is requested, following up with NPCs to see if there's anything more, and the items you get from the bosses.

For example:
The Kazul quest involves first choosing a side between Prim and BWM Settlement, which has some going back and forth and then removing a leader, then finding the other dimension, then finding all the lost pages, then going to the bridge with the guardian, then going back to the other dimension, and it seems to expand on the Shadow storyline, so even if I was able to get through some of the monsters faster (which wasn't always the case due to the new fatigue effect), the quest itself was still fun.

Very good point. I use P&P gameplay when I'm at work charting sometimes. It's nice, but sometimes you just gotta grind! I did mention reasons why some should go after the RoLS, and this is a good way to do it. Plus I like bananas.
When you have a RoLS and use play 'n' pause gameplay, depending on your display timeout you could get 5, 10 or even 20 HP for each pause.
That is another good point making future P&P a better deal.

I get [pseudo] risky too, but I save when I'm about to do it most of the time unless I'm feeling super cocky.
3) Perhaps you have a higher xp per minute rate in BWM, the question is if you are motivated to play. The flip side of that coin is getting discouraged. Every time I try to get the ElyR, I get discouraged after a little while and think, if I had just been grinding, I would have better stats by now and give up. Leveling is pretty good motivation for me (hence the level 52 even though I quit playing for months when I thought the game was never getting updated and stopped getting responses via email). Hell, just earning exp is good motivation. Before I came to the mountain I had 1.5 million unused experience. I think I leveled 18 times in a row when I realized I could do BWM way easier if I cashed in my exp for stats.
4) Sooner or later you will need a huge amount of xp to gain a level. Then trying to get a RoLS would be worth it.
Maybe an ElyR like I'm trying now, but it gets old fast for me even though for some reason I can straight up grind.
IMO this is not the best way to do it. I can do the cave and go back to the tavern in less than 2 minutes. So you could probably get some more xp from it.
Maybe, but T&M spawn prior to the 2 minute mark. I probably killed more of them than you would walking to the bed and back, but there's only one way to know for sure and I'm not leaving BWM again until new content arrives. I am currently running back and forth between beds between BWMC and BWMT (town) trying to find the only legendary item I really want.

I still get to do the quests too... Heck, I did them twice with a split save.

I guess I wasn't being clear. I don't think that grinding just for experience will trivialize it either (for me anyway) because either way it doesn't affect the actual "questing" part of the quests, just how easily you go through the monsters that get in your way.

I plan to stay by the BWM cabin for quite a few level ups, and then go after the ElyR, and those trainers give out good XP too, but I want to have a higher AC, AD and BC to try and avoid getting fatigued, compared to how often I get hit with it at my current level.

The extra critical hit% is a good motivation for me to go after the RoLS, but since I'm already on the other side of the passage, I'd rather go for the ElyR first (not sure how I feel about the RoL, so I'd probably go for that one last, after getting the other 2 first, and possibly 2 RoLS).

OP: Thank you for posting this i find this to be very interseting for argueing both sides of the debate for getting or not getting the ROLS

I have been going back and forth on which Legendary item i am going for. Sometimes I am in the mood to gain tons of xp and will be up on the mountain killing T&A, sometimes i feel like going for the ROLS because i am now a high enough level to stick around for long periods of time without getting hit as often. I really like the Imp caves but the lil buggers that drop the item have to respawn first.

I understand (being another MTG player) the consept of wanting to collect the rare/difficult to find items. I am not giving up but i do like the mountain the best because of the amounts of XP and gold i can gain.
