Well, is there something that could prevent me from getting the gem of warmth? I am playing AT 0.7.1 and have been grinding for gem of warmth for quite a while: 2768 killed "tough as spawns", 1171 killed "young ash spawns" and probably about same amount of "ash spawns" (not displayed in my top5 list). And 421 reinforced black axes (though some of these were dropped by other monsters) and 1073 burnt ash.

I even have magic finder skill 1 but probably this does not affect gem of warmth in 0.7.1 release? Is it possible in 0.7.1 to get multiple gems of warmth?

Nothing could prevent you from getting a GoW, except maybe grinding in the wrong place.
You're right that MF will not help in 0.7.1. It will in the future though. You can get as many GoW as you want/can.

I must have had a lot of good luck, I got my Gem of Warmth while doing Trail by Fire quest, back then I was totally unaware of the existence of this gem, I got it after killing 3 or 4 tough ash spawns and only got one reinforced black axe, but looking at how much trouble all you've been having I don't think I'll try my luck for another one...

Well, finally I got my GoW one day after my last post here. 2816 tough ash spawns and 1193 young ash spawns killed (the "ash spawns" didn't make it into the top-5, so I don't know how many of them I grinded...)

So persistence paid off in the end

In the only other game of this ilk that I played regularly, it used to be called "Board Magic", and it really was surprisingly effective.

Someone would post about an event not occurring, others would sympathise and *Hey Presto*, next day (or so) it would happen.

Whoa, so MF (Magic Finder skill) doesn't work/help in ver 0.7.1 ?!?
Surprised to hear.. after grinding for (RoLS) a very long time, I got one shortly after adding a MF skill, so assumed that helped my odds (by 50%, supposedly). But guess the timing was happenstance?

Or only GoW is not helped by MF?
