+1 I like this idea a lot.buddyCasino wrote:I like this idea, but I think it should be decorational instead of functional. That means it should be like a badge to prove that you have solved an otherwise useless task. But it should not make any other difference, like improving stats etc.
This would add to the game and the player's motivation. Right now leveling up, solving quests and collecting items are the main tasks. Achievements would provide a different set of goals for the player. They could fill a gap if a player needs to grind in order to become powerful enough to tackle the next quest. You need two more levels? Why not get another level of the snake achievement? It is always a good idea to offer parallel tasks that keep a player entertained when he gets stuck on one path.
I think one great source of inspiration for this could be Red Dead Redemption. The achievements of that game are designed in way that you can master them in parallel to the main story. When the game takes you to Mexico, you have to collect Mexican herbs, hunting achievements require you to keep your eyes open while traveling the world etc. In order to get the achievements players should complete 100% of a certain game dimension: kill at least one monster of each kind, visit each map of the game at least once, trade with every merchant there is, talk to all possible people, sell every kind of loot...
My suggestions: achievements require the player to go the extra mile, to kill some monsters that are usually left alive because they positioned off the beaten track. The Oegyth Crystals are a great idea also. Items like that could be a monitor to show people how far they have come until now.
