I must be wrong about that, because the current one is 40x50. Some of the monsters are 64x64 as well, so while most sprites are 32x32, there are exceptions. I'll have to wait for Zukero to weigh in on this (but I have not heard from him for a while, so he must be very busy, and I do not know when he will reply).

The current hero sprite indeed has weird dimensions. For the game, it is downscaled automatically to 32x32, thus wrecking the aspect ratio. This explains why the hero looks different on the map and on the inventory screen.

Android internally handles some automatic up-or-down-scaling depending on the screen's dpi, so what you see is rarely the exact 32x32 sprite.

Your sprite is awesome Maksiu. A 32x32 version would be preferable though as it is the resolution of all map and NPCs sprites, and I'm sure it'll look better if you manually adapt it to 32x32 than if we let Android downscale it.

Would it be possible to have two sprites, one for the map that's 32x32, and one for the inventory screen (well, of course that's possible, but I mean is it easy enough to do)?. The inventory screen sprite could be larger and more detailed, and given the inventory layout a square sprite is not optimal anyway.

I agree, it would add depth to the character... and prevent dumb questions! :lol:

Sorry for the lack of clarity. The hero sprite is used in two places.

One is on the map, as you wander around the world. This has to be 32x32, because all maps are created using 32x32 sprites, and the hero has to cover one sprite.

The other place it's used is when you look at your inventory. It is not restricted to 32x32 there. On the inventory tab the hero sprite is surrounded by sprites for each piece of inventory. Those are set against a "square" sprite with a grey border that is 42x42. If you look at the layout, that means the area where the hero sprite sits is about 80x80 (I'm not sure of the exact size without more work), so a 64x64 sprite should work.

However, to accommodate two different sprite sizes without resorting to the Android resizing would require some programming changes.

I did not have much time today, just for the time being. Fits the daughter of a farmer, at least I think so ... ;)
Something to change? Do you already make a smaller version?
