Weapon/Armor durability?

What about having weapons and armor pieces have a durability, to give it a sense of realism? So maybe a Broad sword will have 130/130 pts of "Durability" and every time you hit a monster it will decrease based on, maybe, durability damage depending on the type of monster? And when you get hit by a monster you lose Armor durability pts, and when you fall unconscious, you risk enduring even more durability damage on your armor. Idk, just thought of it now. I'm sure this idea was already presented at one point or another, lol.
