Quicksand!

I don't recall any RPGs having areas with quicksand in them. Adding quicksand as an obstacle in several areas with a slowing, energy draining condition, and maybe a chance of losing some gear would be great fun and unique to this adventure game. What do you think?

That's an interesting idea. Slowing down movement (i.e. visually) is not possible without a lot of work. Increasing attack cost and move cost during combat is possible though. There is also no way to strip random gear from someone (and I would not want to do that anyway; stripping someone's legendary item would be too much!). We could remove certain things that almost everyone has though, such as meat, potions of health, gems, etc. I'll have to think about this.

Quicksand could affect high level characters also and only affect their material possessions. Good for replayability.

Without changes to the game engine, that is not possible. There is no way to select an outcome based on level.

I didn't mean to affect high level characters specifically. I meant that if you put quicksand in places where all characters had to pass through it and no way to get around it (like a mountain pass) that it would affect high level characters that leveled up so high they don't take any damage. Like you said, they could loose non-legendary items. This way even high level characters would still be vulnerable to some effect and not be invincible.

OK, I see. It could be made to appear somewhat random. You could take any path of very many though the quicksand, and every time you move you might lose a common item that most players will have. Meat, a gem of some type, bread, milk, a bonemeal potion, etc. Maybe if you step on the wrong tile, if you have Tears of the Shadow, you lose it :twisted:

I think characters carrying lots of gold could be easily have to let go of some of their precious gold just to get themselves out of quicksand to survive!
