We can add some flavor to the skill thinking about it as if it was Aikido. There you use the force of the attacker against himself.

So in that sense, the skill should require the 'way of the monk' and some other requirements in that skill tree (maybe dodge also). It feels natural and gives natural defense to the otherwise unarmored fight.

To give it full flavor, maybe it can be learnt from a dojo were the master, if you defeat his students to prove your worth (and hence those students also can apply this skill), then it will teach you that for some crystals. We could round it up eliminating the teachings in charwood and centering all the teachings for the skill tree in the dojo master.

I like the Aikido connection to damage reflection, especially. A monastery where you learn these things could be a fantastic roleplaying addition, too! It would need to be made to fit into the overall storylines, but this should be possible.
