Andor’s Trail Project Meeting #17
2012-12-02 (2012-11-18)
Present: Oskar Wiksten(oskar.wiksten), Scott Devaney(sdevaney), Matthew White(nyktos)

1. Follow-up from last meeting:
Come up with several general projects like documentation for task manager.
Future Maps
Future Quests
Future Code / Features
Future Misc

2. Completed since the last meeting:
Actor stats have undergone a major refactoring in the code. Will be used for future effects that items can provide (damage reflection, temporary skills, etc.)
matthew: via potions, gear, etc. ?

Automatic darker dungeons - specify as property “colorfilter” on maps. We won’t need the darkening overlay tiles in the future.

Link to Andor’s Trail wiki added to About/help

Waterway2&4 are now aligned on the worldmap.

Bug with tapping “loading resources”-screen fixed: http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2248

Scott: Official port to Blackberry 10 devices underway.
http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore ... 1/?lang=en

Amazon “hero legend” dmca filed.

Wiki updated with changelog.

We may now have skills that you cannot level up yourself unless you have been given the first level by a NPC.

3. Things that are being worked on:
Make use of the task managers comments ability when working on tasks. Allows for small quick updates that are available to everyone.

Excellent quest-idea started by purplegreenflower (details to follow).
TODO: Oskar: Review the quest that was shared in google drive.

Remove “exit”-button? - Link to forums instead?
We’ll probably remove it in the future, in favor of putting a link to the forums or the wiki.

Matthew: Help Section Update & v0.7.0 Quest Dialogue Update [in-progress]

Ian: Manor maps 50% done. Will be finished soon. Will be shared in Google drive as a zip file.

Oskar: We’ll probably introduce the new fighting skills with NPCs. We’ll need some nice background story to go along with that.
We’ll probably require 5k gold from an NPC to train the weapon type skills.
We’ll probably require more than 5k gold from an NPC to train the fighting style skills.
Quest idea: The NPC trained Andor. Now the NPC knows that player is old enough to learn these things him-/herself. Could be two brothers.
Could be either in a major city or as a “hermit”. Could also be tied in with some quest where you have to rescue the trainer from captivity first.
TODO: Oskar: Start a taskfreak task about this.

TODO: Matthew: send cobweb tiles to Ian.

TODO: Ian: Share the quest about the snake cave? that was started by someone on the forums.

Brimhaven maps?
TODO: Oskar: Follow up on this, check the forum updates.

Ian will create more tiles (and tilesheets)

4. Discussion of some forum threads/posts that people have found interesting, or want clarification on, or maybe a question answered:
Alchemy http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2233
Oskar: This is something we might do in the future, but not right now. If someone wants to do the code and UI for it, then we might consider it now.

Show rotting corpse dialog once only - http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2245
We might polish this in the future. TODO: Add as an issue in the issue tracker.

Quick slot idea - http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... =10#p24198
Good idea, might be the way to go. Oskar will code an idea for how this could work.

Tileset question: http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... =10#p25511
Sure - we need more tiles. Please feel free to add the tiles that are required (such as center pieces of rugs).

Critical skill bug: http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2284
TODO: Matthew: Test if that’s a bug or not. Register as an issue on the issue tracker if it is a bug.

New pack leader icon needed http://andorstrail.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2339
TODO: Oskar: Check where this particular icon is from. We should reference the source in “about”.
Update: The icon that we use in Andor’s Trail is originally from the “pixelhack” updated Nethack tileset: http://pixelhack.blogspot.com/ . The pixelhack artist may have used the larger image as inspiration (which is allowed), or vice versa.

5. What should we have ready for the next meeting?
Self imposed deadline for VIP.
Text for the announcement.
TODO: Oskar: Send a bullet pointed list to Scott of what the announcement could contain.

Oskar: Would like to do some quickslot changes.

Ian hopes to finish the Manor maps.

Random loot in boxes (see below)

Brainstorm:
Create crate tile with hole, unless one already exists?
i was thinking of adding another “hideout” in the green maze...
a place that is blocked off like Vacor’s Hideout, until you meet a certain condition
then i had a random thought - give the player a new choice
[where to respawn at when/if you die]
if you have at least 2 hideouts unlocked,
you can make it your default spawn point upon death.
so, then we keep making hideouts that the player finds nice treasures
and also has a bed to rest in - and possibly an option to respawn at the location of your choice
Could also be tied in with purchasable houses/cabins in the future.
We’ll place a resting place somewhere in the green maze - but have to make sure that it’s not a death trap like the cabin in BWM was.

random pick-ups = feels more rewarding for exploration...
even just a few gold, or an empty vial or something you might wanna hold onto...
throw stuff in random boxes & crates EVERYWHERE... like we did in Vacor’s Hideout.
im thinking...
at the taverns & inns - have two or three things for the player to pick up
[finding stuff is a huge part of RPGs]
TODO: Assemble a list of the tiles that we should use for these loot boxes. Send to Oskar.

~~~
Lodar’s Hideaway Brainstorm: also on TaskFreak!
The first time the hero meets Lodar, he gets a letter from Andor. Lodar tells the hero about the exchange... "Give this to my little brother, if he comes looking for me again." The letter is vague, and doesn't go into detail about the questions in the players mind - but assures him / her that they are on the 'right track'.
~~~
Legendary Shield, Boots, etc.
TODO: Anyone that wants new items: Create the items in the content editor and suggest them, so that we may add them if they fit into the game:
http://andors-trail.googlecode.com/git/ ... ditor.html

Need to equip a certain item that grants you a special skill / condition to slay a boss
Great idea!
TODO: Matthew: Add it as a task in TaskFreak.

The Super Heavy Item
Create a task in taskfreak about it, so that we don’t lose the idea.

I really really like the idea.
Perhaps we should also remove the legendary items from their "owners" and add them to the pool of items any monster (beside the small bugs) could drop.

hmm ... IMO instead of removing them just add them to pool and make drop chance of legendary and extraordinary items drop weaker in pool..
