I had started on a dialogue that involved talking to a trainer to get a talisman that will identify you as a certain class, say fighter or thief. Once you have the talisman, you would then have access to different items that are class specific. Also, you could then do side quests to increase your rank in that class, and thus open up access to better items. I am not sure how to code this and am open to suggestions.

OK, umm so why not? And if not classes, then what???

Maybe a "use" talisman that could do something? Have a choice of a few for people to pick the one they like.

Can then do more quests to upgrade the talisman to give a bigger effect.

eg on use gives back 30hp. Use has to recharge every 100 steps. Upgrades to 40 then 50hp. Or can upgrade to reduce recharge to 80 then 60 steps. These are just ideas.

Made me remember the cursed shield in ff3 or 6. Have 100 battles with it equipped to become the Paladin shield. That would be a cool thing to have too.

That's cool, cause you know, he is the man. So, what do you think of the whole talisman idea?? With different paths and what not.

It's like a necklace, or it could be a broach, or even a medal, but it represents something. Be it a group or an accomplishment. I am not sure what google will say, but that is my definition. It could be a talisman of sharpsight, that allows a better crit chance, or it could be a talisman of some other type, something that might bring about images of toughness for a blocking skill. It could be an award from a quest, that when worn, it might heal the individual. But what I was thinking was that you go to an individual for this talisman and then do quests related to the talisman to "power it up." I had originally thought of using a class system, but that is out of the equation. So maybe we could use it in some other way, but limit it to one or two different talismans. That way you will have to figure out how you want to build your character. And then maybe in the future, be able to combine a couple of talisman to create a super-talisman. What do you think about that??

A talisman (from Arabic طلسم Tilasm, ultimately from Greek telesma or from the Greek word "telein" which means "to initiate into the mysteries") is an amulet or other object considered to possess supernatural or magical powers that are placed on the object by an outside force. It's an inanimate object that one makes animate. In magic a talisman is endowed with magical properties or magical force with a specific nature. It could be a sentimental object or souvenir of some kind that when looked at years later evokes a certain emotional response.

The class system doesn't work. But if you wanted to call it a fighters talisman (raises ap or something) or thiefs talisman (chance to steal) defenders talisman (raise block or whatever) then maybe that would be better? They can give an actor condition or a chance for a condition. This way it's not classes but you can choose something to suit your play style.

another example

chance to reflect damage, each upgrade increases the chance.

chance to absorb some damage turn it into hp.

chance to steal gold (lame)

Getting sleepy now

I have this vision of by the time the game is finished everyones running around with 9 different actors conditions from each one of there equipment slots :lol:
