The patten would be more difficult, but look better in my opinion

Ok ok. Thanks. So make it like an upside down staircase.
Will try when I get home, or tomorrow.

How's this:

I feel it looks more like a pyramid than a canyon tho...

It's rather sterile looking. Have some curves, here and there wider or narrower.
It needn't be much, maybe 2 or 3 tiles to left/right
This way you also get some perspective.

Also, have some protrusions, have parts of the land around reaching further in (peninsulas) and parts of the canyon reaching out (bays), so you can take advantage of the depth component of the visible vertical walls, also, make it have sloped walls, and straight, vertical walls.

For a canyon, take a look at the Brimhaven maps, with the river. It needs visible walls to give perspective.

Here's an updated canyon.
Looks heaps better IMO.

Just hope I got the layering right :?

Also, if I place an object under the walkable layer, is it automatically not walkable on?
However doing this doesn’t allow me to place shadows above it.
And can’t seem to be able to highlight objects as walkable.

Do the walkable layer last. You dont need to and dont want to do it before other things (You might want to add something else). Your walkable layer might be hidden, there is an eye next to the layer tab, if it is closed, it hides the layer.

That looks much better, will the canyon stretch over a few maps ? If it does it might be better to start where it begins.

Yes, the canyon does start in the south.
However, how do I turn objects into the walkable layer?
If my trees are just in the object layer, does that mean the character can still walk on them?
Lastly, if my canyon is already in the walkable layer, can I transfer it into another layer without redoing the whole thing?

I also notice that the walkable layer on published maps are pink, whereas mine is just the object on the tile (the dirt).

Nevermind, After rereading the tutorial and asking around I think I finally get the grasp of it now.
