Dear lazyweb,

Is anyone using Google plus? What are your thoughts on it?

I have been getting some join requests from people, but haven't really understood the answer to "why should I use it?".

So, what's your take on it, what am I missing by not using it?

I am not a social networking kind of guy. Not on facebook and I don't tweet.
I use linkedin for my professional contacts, but that is it so I too don't know what I am missing.

Well this post is kind of old (was written in 2011)

I personally like the group chat of Facebook but the video chat of G+ is much better so every program has got ups and downs. :D

The video chat of G+ is nice, but it's nowhere near as nice a Skype's, at least for one-to-one video chat.
Skype's video protocol is much better, working well with less bandwidth, and better surviving a poor connection quality.
IMHO, that's what the Hangouts team should focus on.

As for FB, I don't have an account, so I won't comment.

Skype is better, but if Google+ could improve its quality, I'd use it instead, since it offers free group video (on Skype you need at least one user to have a premium account now), and it supports group video on phones and tablets, while Skype group video only works on PCs, unless that's changed, it's been a while since I used Skype.

If you have an Android phone (and maybe iPhone too but I don't know), there's the added benefit of having any picture you take automatically backed up to your Google+ account. I know other services like Dropbox also have this, but you get more free storage from Google+.

My main reason for using Facebook is a lot of friends and family are on it and it's a good way to keep up with what's going on with them (to the extent that they share on Facebook).
