I agree. I remember as a kid asking my dad why this rule exists and never getting an answer I liked. Next game you watch, pay attention to the catcher on the 3rd strike (especially your white Sox catcher who is not that good), if he drops it he will tag the batter no matter if the batter is running or not.

I used to play baseball here in Germany for some years. Confusion about rules was one of the things that were the most fun. Especially in the youth league you could get away with just walking to the next base and nobody even realizing. Much more relaxing than running to make a steal. I really love football (soccer for those in the US) for the simplicity of its rules, but in baseball you can do a lot of clever things if you really know the rules.

Baseball is so exotic here that it is really hard to find enough people to form a team. Sometimes we played with 5 year old kids in the outfield. "Stop chasing grass hoppers and get that ball!"

How did Phillip Humber do tonight versus my red Sox? Not so "perfect" this time around.

There has only been one instance of back-to-back perfect games in the history of major league baseball, so that is not a surprise. I doubt his head was on straight, yet. I gather the Red Sox won. I don't really follow any sport that closely, but believe rare accomplishments (like perfect games) deserve recognition even if by an opposing team. I am even happy when the Cubs are doing well! Actually, it has been my impression over many years, that Cubs fans are much more antagonistic toward the Sox and their fans than the Sox fans are toward the Cubs and their fans. Not in the case of really rabid fans, of course, but the general run-of-the-mill fans. The only time I wish the Cubs to lose is in the intra-city games they play each year. The Red Sox, on the other hand, are direct rivals, so I always prefer for them to lose. But that means that some other direct rival team has won, so it does not really matter. In fact, against the Yankees, I might even cheer on the Bosox!

My beloved Red Sox added to the title town's total championships. Since 2001, the 4 major sports teams in Boston have win 8 championships.
