Just for planning purposes. And also if you don't care to level right away, but want to know how many levels you have waiting in store, or how much experience you need before your next skill point. It's really not all that important if you're not weird like me...

Re: Quick Learner
i simply don't see the point in it, myself.
some rpg's have a finite number of levels to gain, or a finite number of battles to fight. i can see the point in wanting to level quickly, especially in the latter case, where there's no grinding.
since this game allows me to grind as much as i care to, i'm going to get there sooner or later, anyway.

Re: Quick Learner
I prefer sooner
It gets [would get] discouraging to me if I was earning exp at the base rate and taking days on end to get one level. It doesn't even keep up with the inflation of the exp to level, but it helps. Also, I currently have nothing else I see as valuable in the SP department. I won't waste them on AC, AD, or BC (I currently have higher numbers in all 3 categories than I need), Merchant and Treasure Hunting mean nothing to me with 1.4 million gold, DR and Corpse Eater sound nice, but considering I have near 350 HP (and rising by 4x/level), Regeneration 3, and haven't used a single potion for the past 5 million earned experience, a few saved damage (if/when I get hit) means nothing, I'm almost at 100% CC, and a single item that adds 4%CC will put me to 100% without spending another SP (which is bound to happen in the next update or two), Failure Mastery is no longer an issue now that I don't even have to use potions, Magic finder is useless to me because I don't know if there is a single L or E item that I would wear including the RoLS, and the conditions, again, rarely cause me any problems because of my sick HP and CC.
I have, for the first time, started saving SP in anticipation of the next update. It pains me so as I look at my earned experience because having not used it on QL I have already wasted 215,000 exp I could have gotten for free. I hope there is a really awesome skill next update.

Re: Quick Learner
quick learner skill is not for me as my stats to me any way seem more important than the title of having a higher level personally i would like to outclass the players 10+ levels above me)
But thats where im at and just my opinion

i agree that most EVERYTHING in the game is useless, if you're a high enough level. you could discard every bit of armor, and your weapon, and still beat the game silly.
i guess there are two approaches to "beating" an RPG, these days; one can either grind like crazy, and overlevel the baddies, or try to figure out how to "beat" a game at the lowest level possible, through good choices of upgrades and equipment. the latter is more fun, i think. i've imposed a cap on myself at lvl 52, and will grind for the RoLS until then, and i think THAT may be too much, and will probably delete, and start over, when the next update arrives.
btw, i use the word "beat" sarcastically, since the word "beat" implies overcoming a challenging opponent. that concept went out the window when games started letting you save your game at will, allowing you to correct your mistakes as fast as you make them.
we no longer "beat" such games; we "finish" them.
which is not to say games aren't fun to finish, anymore; but it takes away the bragging rights you used to have over siblings and friends, when you were FIRST to beat a game.
good lord, this post sounds cranky

Re: Quick Learner
As for the rest, it's just something to do while waiting. As I said before, once the game is complete, I'm going to restart. There are several different schools of thought when it comes to RPGs, but for one that's being built, I am thinking by not starting over and over and essentially memorizing the game update by update, it will offer me a much more pleasurable experience when I get to play the game start to finish. Not to diminish what others are doing, but for the people that have started over a ton, the final product may be just another run through and nothing really special. There is so much stuff I don't remember about the beginning of the game, and I'm very excited about that!

Re: Quick Learner
this is good stuff!
i love seeing what motivates others...
some really good points, from both (all?) sides.
so many different things can be gratifying when playing an RPG,
and what drives us to play our own way can say alot about us personally.
as for me, after playing "just for fun"...
i craved a better understanding of the differing builds
not just to feel them out, but to test the balance too.
that & the idea of other heroes being more effective than mine, bothers me!
i figured, since i play my favorite RPG's "till their wheels fall off"...
the other players and developers may as well benefit.
i can reread the same book, or watch a great movie more than once...
and i have an obsessive tendancy to restart until i feel my build is 'perfect for me'
at first Quick Learner felt like a perfect fit - later, it felt like a huge waste...
but, only a waste because of my build / play style.
it can be a great skill for those who tire of grinding earlier than i do,
or those who are trying to climb up the high score list.
