tap 'completed quests only' to easily find the "Missing Pieces" Quest.
Or see whose boots you are wearing, or have in your inventory. If you have his boots, he's the one you killed!

In my main game, I sided with Vacor and killed Unzel. I wanted to see what would happen if he opened the rift and it removed The Shadow. I also made that same choice with my newer game.
As far as "good or bad", neither of them is good. Unzel was a backstabbing theif, and there's hints that The Shadow might not be good (the woman with the statue of Elythara, says her light will protect her from The Shadow, and that Kazul demon may have some connection to it, and he didn't seem good).
But being curious, I do have a split off game where I sided with Unzel and killed Vacor. I will say Vacor has the nicer boots between the 2
