Re: Magicfinder. Is it Useful or Useless?
I like it, mostly because I don't want to be a powerhouse; I'm currently at lvl 37, and it is my guess that's enough to finish the game (in a couple of years, I fears
). Now I get to spend my skillpoints on something that improves my odds, without really strengthening my character. Yes, I (will hopefully some glorious day) get stronger with better weapons, but I could've also had them without MF, but with just a lot more grinding.

Noticed that some of ya are saying you used it before but probably won't use it again. Why is that? It doesn't quite reflect the poll. Would you actually use it again if it took less skill points to get it to the point it was before when you did use it?
Also noticed that some of you have had pretty good success with it but dumped a good number of skill points into it. Just wondering if this is because you are collectors. I've been like that in games before, where I wanted to collect all of a certain kind of item. I could certainly understand trying to collect the rarest items in the game.
I'm just the curious sort, and also wonder if most people would use the skill or not. Would it be worth getting it again if there were only one or two items I wanted, or in that case would it just be better using the points for other skills?

Re: Magicfinder. Is it Useful or Useless?
I only used it in my main game because I wanted to collect all the L&E items and when I was trying for the RoLS or the ElyR before the skill was available, I was getting a lot of the counter items but no luck on the actual ring or sword.DarkSavant13 wrote:Noticed that some of ya are saying you used it before but probably won't use it again. By the time the update with the skill system came out I had 14 or 15 (can't remember) skill points all at once, and already meeting the minimum requirement for at least level 1 of most of them, which makes a big difference from getting them one at a time, at least for me. So after I used 2 for Combat Speed, 1 each for More and Better Criticals, 1 for Enduring Body, I used 10 on Magic Finder.
At the time, I was dead set against using any skills that could be duplicated from level ups or equipment, so things like Hard Hit, Weapon Accuracy, Bark Skin, Corpse Eater were out, and I hadn't realized the awesomeness of Cleave. Magic Finder (and Quick Learner) were 2 skills that were unique since the skills were the only way to get those benefits.
On my 2nd game, which I use to try out whatever choice my 1st game character doesn't make (Vacor or Unzel, BWM or Prim, etc) I wasn't trying to get the E&L items and I didn't want to split time leveling up both, so I used the level up booster skills like Weapon Accuracy and Dodge.
On my 3rd game which was to start over after the skill system was in place, I started with skills like Increased Fortitude, Regeneration, Corpse Eater, and Cleave.
The current game (even without the new alpha test) has a lot of equipment that closely match what you get from the L & E items, and I have a better appreciation now for some of the skills I overlooked before, so if I wanted a complete set of items, I'd probably only use 2 or 3 skills for Magic Finder if I had to do it all over again.

i think it's a nice skill, and i think 2 is the perfect amount to spend on it.Pyrizzle wrote:Congrats! That dang ring still eludes me on a daily basis. I've gone crazy searching for it and officialy gave up looking for it a while ago. Now that i have 2 in my magic finder maybe it would be a good time to start searching again. 1st Ring (v6.9 / weeks ago) - 1350 small rocks... (retired)
2nd ring (v6.10 / today) - 821 small rocks & 2 Magic Finder... (active)
just thought these stats might give people some hope!
i consider myself lucky, with both of these drops.
after seeing so many players suffer from terrible luck,
im not sure if this is encouraging or not - i hope it is.
the ring is not just a Legend!
good luck to all on the hunt!!!
on that build, i also had 2 in Quick Learner...
and even a rare pick - Treasure Hunter.
my plan was to test out a build for someone who wanted to advance quickly,
and spend little time grinding for loot or rares.
it was a success, i leveled faster & got my drops early.
the effect of treasure hunter early is shocking.
so, in the end - if it suits your build it is a great skill!
if it doesn't fit in with your plan, it might feel like a wasted skill point.
just some opinions

What build would the treasure hunter skill fit in

the one i just described

you'd be shocked at how fast a rich low level character can progress through the game.
money makes you stronger than XP - if this game was done & i only planned on playing it once...
i would consider a build like the one i just described.
but since i am a very patient player, on my main characters -
i just grind for money, xp & drops instead of spending points in short-cut skills.
if you have bad luck, or hate grinding...

QL 2
MF 2
you know you are leveling faster & you have great odds with Rare Drops.
just my opinion, but when you stick with one character for too long...
you lose a certain perspective on the game.
with the update, this point is even more valid...
i ran out of potions and gold at with a new level 60.
keep an open mind before you start laughing.

I'm almost getting loopy enough to drop a couple of points in MF, with over 1,000 WP and still no ElyR

Lemme see... Going after extraordinary item with a 1/1000 drop rate... MF lvl 2 makes it a 1/998 chance... Hmmmm
Lol, it would seem that frustrated adventurers are the reason mf gets used at all, cuz it makes you *think* it'll be a better drop...
But hey, that's my opinion
