I had seen mentions before about adding the ability for new movements like crossing water, or climbing up walls. So here's an idea for a quest to introduce the ability to climb up walls, and make use of a recently added drop item.
In Remgard, the NPC who sells equipment (gloves, shoes) asks if you can help him get some rare gems located at the top of a mountain, rumored to be guarded by some fearsome creatures. But the mountain is so strong it can't be pierced, so there are no passages, and its surface is smooth so there's nothing to grab onto to climb it.
But if you bring him the material, he can create a pair of "spider's gloves" and "spider's boots" that will allow you to climb up the mountain (yes, I recently saw The Amazing Spider-man, and also used to read the comic books).
Part 1 of the quest: He asks you to bring 1 pair each of Leather Gloves and Leather Boots, and 20 dead spiders (5 for each glove and boot). After you do so, you are rewarded with XP, and then he asks for 100 gold each to upgrade the boots and gloves. The stats of the gloves and boots would remain the same, with the exception of a new stat "spider's crawl" that allows you to climb walls by sticking to them.
Part 2 of the quest: when you get to the mountain, you equip the boots and gloves, and climb the side of the mountain to reach the top. Then there would be some new monsters guarding the rare gems. After you get them and return to the NPC, the quest is done and you're handsomely rewarded with XP and gold, and you can keep the equipment and use them to climb any walls added in future updates.

Ultima had an escape rope that would take you back to the entrance of the cave you were in when used, if I remember correctly... That would've been #6, I think. ultima iv or something had a skill you unlocked later on (mountaneering i believe it was) that allowed you to go over some areas of the map previously locked, though they were in the starting areas. very nice. i support this is AT.
