Re: Extraordinary and legendary items
So um...is there any way to verify that these items are real?
I've spent over 40 hours now, on and off again, looking for that gargoyle ring and I'm starting to wonder if you guys are just playing a really bad prank.
about 1600 stones, MF3....and over 1100 potions later...I've probably gained about 16 levels too...but no ring.

Re: Extraordinary and legendary items
Would you prefer if they weren't real and you could stop trying?
Don't give up, I got these with MF 2, but it can take a while.

There was a time that i thought the same thing my friend. Do not worry, the Ring of Lesser Shadow is real... and totally worth the grind to get. Re: Extraordinary and legendary items
If I hadn't gotten one with my other character, I might think the ElyR was a myth. I picked up 2000 weak poisons with 0 magic finder and 863 more with 8 points in MF, and still no luck. It's the last one I need and the game doesn't want me to have it.

Re: Extraordinary and legendary items
For those of you interested in a bit more accurate statistics regarding legendary items, with no levels of Magic finder, you must kill on average 6,931 monsters of the appropriate type to have a 50% chance of finding a legendary item. 50% of people attempting to find a legendary item will kill between 2,877 and 13,862 monsters before finding their first item. 95% of people attempting to find a legendary item will kill between 253 and 36,887 monsters before finding their first item. In other words, there is a 97.5% chance that you will find a legendary item within your first 36,887 kills. You need 92,099 kills before you have a 99.99% chance of getting a legendary item (the same odds as not finding one in your very first kill).

If you want to perform your own calculations, here is the math I used:
If you have a 0.01% chance of finding an item each kill, then you have a 99.99% chance of not finding the item each kill. In five kills, there are a LOT of possibilities. It is possible that you might find an item every kill for five kills (very unlikely, but possible). It is possible that you will find an item in four of your kills, but not in the fifth. This can happen if you don't find one on the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth kill, but you do for each of the other four. I can continue listing off all of the possibilities, but we don't need to consider them. If you want to know the probability that you will find at least one item, then all you need to consider is the probability that you will not find an item in any of the five kills. 100% minus the probability that you don't find any items is the probability that you will find at least one.
So, what is the probability that you don't find a legendary item in the first five kills? It is (0.9999)^5. So, after a number of kills (let's call it x kills), the probability that you have not found an item is (0.9999)^x. If (0.9999)^x=0.5, then there is a 50% chance that you have not yet found a legendary item. This means that there is a 1-0.5=50% chance that you have found at least one legendary item. Now, what is x? That is found by logarithms. So, log(0.5)/log(0.9999) is approximately 6,931. In other words, in 6,931 kills, you have approximately a 50% chance of finding at least one legendary item. If you want to know when you have a 99.99% chance of finding a legendary item, that would be log(1-.9999)/log(.9999), which is approximately 92,099 kills. If you start taking Magic Finder, those numbers decrease significantly. Note that as you continue to increment your skill in Magic Finder, you decrease the rate of return from continued increases. There is a significant different between skill level 0 and skill level 3, but much less of a difference between skill level 3 and skill level 6.
