Attack Strategies

Post by Fatboy73 »

Does it make a difference from what angle or side I attack from? Like, will I get better hits or get hit less attacking from behind?

Front or back makes no difference. The diagonals do though. There is a 15% chance a monster will attack you if you stand next to it, which decreases by 5% for each level of the Evasion skill (so with three levels, you can stand next to a monster forever, as long as it cannot move onto your tile). If a monster tries to move onto your tile then it always gets the first hit. However, most monsters do not move outside their spawn area, and do not move on the diagonals (there are exceptions to this though, such as the graveyard). Since it is a turn based game, you are therefore more likely to get the first hit if you attack on a diagonal, bacuse the monster will not attempt to move onto you in that direction. With three levels of Evasion, most monsters will never get the first hit if you attack on a diagonal.

You are learning from your mistakes at this point.... As we all did initially. But...........

Where you are presently in the game is only the tip of the iceberg!!!! And what's coming (the spider caves, the green maze, Blackwater mountain....) will drive you to the point of insanity. Two of the three I named (and there is more!!!) are so tough that even seasoned veterans don't tackle them until they level up to 50-60!

Where I am going with this.... Count your first play through as expendable. Seriously, be ready to let it go and start over..... All the more wiser from all that you've learned. At this point in my playing (after 8 restarts.... Most of them mechanical errors on my end) I have learned what to grab (the 11g staff does amazing damage early on and costs nothing to buy!) and how to level from 1 to 15 quickly.... As in a few days at most.

Knowing where the good item sellers are is also critical to your chances of going farther in battle. There is a thieves guild member in almost every tavern / bar. Some of them sell the most amazing gear. A rapier in Vilegard, a couple of rings at Crossglen, a good shield in Stoutford..... And your doing more damage than you could otherwise attain to early on. Saving your money for just the right purchase likewise saves you time along the way.

When I grind, I do so with a SPECIFIC focus ... A ring here, a shield there.... If you are very careful, you can avoid all monsters between Fallhaven and Vilegard or even Crosstown Tavern... And make your money / grinding count for something, getting back to the fight with a lot more power to invest.

Mark your first play through as simply learning the ropes. Not even RJackson figured on daggers as the most powerful weapon on his first play through, right RJ ;) .

Here, this will also help you.... Although the information is outdated a bit (it doesn't have the 7.0 /7.5 updates) it still gives you an interactable database you will often turn to.

Actually, I did. But I have an extremely technical / logical way of thinking, so I am not typical of most players ;)
