Well if you're going to pick berries off the bush you better make sure no wolves have "marked their territory"!

Step unto a tile where you've found a wild berry before, get swarmed by mad honeybees.

I insist that wild food should be dangerous in some way.

And fancy pastries would obviously cost a lot more than a six dollar loaf of bread. Even if you can't be sure what those 'evil bakers' really put in their stuff...

I mean we already have food stores in every town, right now I could buy a huge stack of cooked meat between Crossglen and Fallhaven and never worry about well-sustaining and safe food ever again -- does this mean the game is too easy now?

Once you get enough gold, getting food is very easy. I buy smoked sausages and cooked perch whenever I'm in the right areas. They are expensive, but they restore a lot of HP per round. I currently have 16 sausages and 37 perch in inventory :D

If you include wild berries, what about orchards?
With the chance to collect either ripe fruits or bad fruits.
Then you can collect Apples, Pears, Plums, etc.

We probably don't want to go overboard with a wide selection of foodstuffs that are basically the same thing, it's just a burden.

And I'm gonna echo what's been said above, we don't want it to be easy to just walk into someplace and collect a pile of free food without a fight (or spending coin).

Though you know, eating too much fresh fruit like plums or cherries can be a little tough on the system ;) Still, point taken. A bit here, a bit there, a long regrow (respawn) time since once something is picked it can take a full year to regrow. Mushrooms excepted of course.

And someone mentioned the Evil Bakers maybe not being all that truthful about the ingredients. Perhaps it's less about the ingredients being an uncertainty and more about the cholesterol? Darned French pastries. So good! So deadly.

I think this whole conversation stems from the need for the long trips to Remgard with no sign of health aids after the Spider Cave.
Embrace the difficulty and enjoy it. Look for Andor. Not berries!

Unfortunately, this is something we can't hide. You can look at an item before you buy it, and see all the properties, both good and bad. To hide properties would mean a change in the game engine, and that is probably not worth the effort.
