I think it'll be interesting if you could break the rocks and get nothing OR random types of gems, with an ultra rare gem inside it which can be used to forge/transmute certain weapons/armors alongside the current non-existent heartsteel and a few of the current existing gems/jewels?

Transmuting stuff is not easy with the current game engine. We can only swap one predefined item for another predefined item, and we can't even do that if you are wearing the item.

Maybe make it so in certain places or towns or with certain people, certain amount of certain gems can be traded for experience or stats or or skill points or etc - or anything players would find worthwhile, or maybe even for things that make the appearance of our character look better, like fashion on a barbie doll. At least make the gems worth more gold would be a first step to making them more worthwhile. Or maybe create a stock market for gems, the value of the gems could rise and fall randomly or be effected by certain events in the game, the how the price of commodities rise and fall in the real world. Even making certain gems be used like magic powers would be good, like use a gem to light to annoying dark areas in underground places etc. I like the idea mentioned above about using the gems to cure bad conditions or give good conditions.

Thx for these ideas :)
Not all of them are possible with the engine, like varying prices in shops.
E.g. exchange of gems for experience would be nice and should be possible. But exchange for skill points would be far too much though.

Thank you all for replying! How about a casino or similar games of chance to gamble all our gems/items/gold at? Having excessive amounts of anything is more fun when gambling is allowed to increase those excessive amounts.

F Yeah!!! Casinos all closed here in Canada and no sports to bet on either even Chinatown gambling closed due to virus so might as well bet it all while playing Andor's Trail!!!

It is just an idea that I find interesting to develop in the future.

I like the idea of welding a stone to a subset of rings, not all and not all gems/stones.
Doing so will gain you an actor condition.

But then how would you determine which rings/stones are craftable ? Maybye only rare/extraordinary/legendary rings (because it's about jewelry and the ringmaker would only accept some powerful rings to make decent jewels) but how could you determine which stones are craftable or not ?
