There is probably an official name in the code, but it the same as the common name(s)?
It seems fairly obvious to me that if you are in a cave filled with gargoyles in the location described for the gargoyle cave, you are indeed in the gargoyle cave. This game does not try to trick you by having two nearly-identical caves near each other, so that there is a right and a wrong gargoyle cave.
+1 IMO it is boring if ewerywhere are roadmaps and tips "go there if, dont go if, there you can find.." But perhaps more tips like the guy in far east who tells some rumors about the gargoile cave are needed in the game ? and perhaps some rumors about legendary and extraordinary items as well ?

I don't need directions to the caves and now that I played for awhile I am confident which caves are which. Also I would get very annoyed everytime I walked into a cave and a message flashed on the screen. What I would suggest is like what is in the rat cave. There is a plaque on the wall near the entrance, and if you inspect it it displays a message. At the moment it displays something like "this sign is too damaged to make out what it reads". Instead it could display the name of the cave. That way it won't annoy you with a message every time you walked in, you don't have to look at it if you don't want, or if you are lost, read the sign.
I have noticed these in most caves but only the one in the snake cave has a message.

a pop up would break the immersion into the game,
but signs, rumors, etc - parts of the game...

valued information that can be 'discovered'
not screen clutter ;)

Even with what everyone has said I still like this idea of a small passive notification. It doesn't tell me where to go, it doesn't give any hints. The only thing it does is, whenever I go into a town or "dungeon" it would tell me the name.

im down with that, passive...

perfect time to test it without ostracizing too many players

As long as something is there either a plaque or a passive notification. I personaly think passive is better but I am glad a lot of people agree with my idea I'm glad I can contribute in a great game I do have lots of ideas also. I am going to colloge very soon for computer programming and game design and I look forward to help any way possible

I think maybe we have a notifications system like the monster loot that can be turned off when the player figures out where everything is... Just an opinion.
