just a couple of thoughts.
1) nobody in their right mind would use a potion that doubled the amount of deadly enemies one would have to fight. to use a sports metaphor, it would be like a football team letting the other team have 22 guys on the field. (note to those of you who don't live in the united states; football is what you guys call "soccer", and there are 11 guys on each team.)
2) it's called "grinding" for a reason.

I think you might have that wrong. Our soccer is what is known as football in Europe. I believe the closest thing they play to American style football would be Rugby.
That aside, I tend to agree with you that it is called grinding for a reason. I believe I said almost that exact thing to tek recently. I also agree with dacron. With costs like that, you are, even if not at first, trading the grinding time of one thing for the grinding time of another.

Re: New Potion - Instant Re-spawn
Personally I'm against grinding for gear/loot. If you want a better route for your exceptional and legendary loot create a universal token that can be traded in. I'm not the game creator so I'm not going to say how you would recieve said token. But you could easily adapt said drop rate off mobs universally or could recieve it by completing "x" number of quests. Both have benefits and drawbacks. Currently I have no issues with loot since the game is in test and its an effective way to kill time between updates.

1) That's why I suggested a story/quest to also provide an explanation for why such a potion would be used. Instead of the sports metaphor, how about the real life situation: if it were possible to use a potion to bring back extinct species, wouldn't people consider using it (just not on dinosaurs since we don't want a Jurassic Park situation).logopile wrote:just a couple of thoughts.

2) Yes, but the grind could go faster with a re-spawn potion. And for anyone that doesn't want it to go faster, you can just choose not to buy/use the potions.

Um, I totally want dinosaurs back on Earth... Maybe we just don't make the carnivorous ones?

Re: New Potion - Instant Re-spawn
How do you figure the grind will go faster with potions? Can you guarantee farming for potions will take less time then just sitting there farming? Have you done the math? Coding in a quest with three different solutions seems like a waste of time to just change the way your farming loot. That's time the creator could impliment more zones, more mobs, and more story driven quests. I see this as a waste of time unless its coded far after the game is complete.Mino wrote:1) That's why I suggested a story/quest to also provide an explanation for why such a potion would be used. Re: New Potion - Instant Re-spawn
That was the whole point of building a story/quest around it, so its also a side quest added to the main game.
As for wanting to re-spawn monsters, it would mostly just be useful to people trying to get the L & E items, and if you've been playing the game long enough, you would already have a bunch of the items needed for the potions and certainly enough gold to buy any you don't have (and the potions themselves), so you wouldn't have to do a lot of farming to get the potions. As for newer players, you're absolutely right, there would be very little reason to use the potions. But even new players could eventually get to a point where they might want to.
My idea is that after you finish the actual quest, then you can buy as much of the potions as you want (provided you have the supplies and money), you go to the Gargoyle caves, or anywhere else you want to grind, and then get them to re-spawn right away instead of waiting it out. I haven't done the math, but once you have the potions, how is that not faster?

Re: New Potion - Instant Re-spawn
I don't really have a dog in this fight, but that statement is kind of like saying, "If you don't count the membership fee, the extra time in the store, and the longer drive to get there, how are groceries not cheaper at BJ's?" Sorry, just thought that was funny.Mino wrote:I haven't done the math, but once you have the potions, how is that not faster?

and if i read that other post correctly, the only reason to bring back an extinct species...is to kill them all off AGAIN?

just kidding, mino; you're right, one can always opt to not use the potions, just as i opt not to use the skill that increases my chances of getting legendary items. it's a good idea, for those who are impatient about it, and even better, since your idea makes them work for the benefit.

Re: New Potion - Instant Re-spawn
I would have seen it more as if you already have a membership (the items/gold needed) and you're already there (completing the quests to get the potion), then you might as well get the cheaper groceries (the potions to take with you to the Gargoyle caves or wherever)Chest_Rockfield wrote:I don't really have a dog in this fight, but that statement is kind of like saying, "If you don't count the membership fee, the extra time in the store, and the longer drive to get there, how are groceries not cheaper at BJ's?"
