Also noticed that some of you have had pretty good success with it but dumped a good number of skill points into it. Just wondering if this is because you are collectors. I've been like that in games before, where I wanted to collect all of a certain kind of item. I could certainly understand trying to collect the rarest items in the game.
I'm just the curious sort, and also wonder if most people would use the skill or not. Would it be worth getting it again if there were only one or two items I wanted, or in that case would it just be better using the points for other skills?

I only used it in my main game because I wanted to collect all the L&E items and when I was trying for the RoLS or the ElyR before the skill was available, I was getting a lot of the counter items but no luck on the actual ring or sword.
By the time the update with the skill system came out I had 14 or 15 (can't remember) skill points all at once, and already meeting the minimum requirement for at least level 1 of most of them, which makes a big difference from getting them one at a time, at least for me. So after I used 2 for Combat Speed, 1 each for More and Better Criticals, 1 for Enduring Body, I used 10 on Magic Finder.
At the time, I was dead set against using any skills that could be duplicated from level ups or equipment, so things like Hard Hit, Weapon Accuracy, Bark Skin, Corpse Eater were out, and I hadn't realized the awesomeness of Cleave. Magic Finder (and Quick Learner) were 2 skills that were unique since the skills were the only way to get those benefits.
On my 2nd game, which I use to try out whatever choice my 1st game character doesn't make (Vacor or Unzel, BWM or Prim, etc) I wasn't trying to get the E&L items and I didn't want to split time leveling up both, so I used the level up booster skills like Weapon Accuracy and Dodge.
On my 3rd game which was to start over after the skill system was in place, I started with skills like Increased Fortitude, Regeneration, Corpse Eater, and Cleave.
The current game (even without the new alpha test) has a lot of equipment that closely match what you get from the L & E items, and I have a better appreciation now for some of the skills I overlooked before, so if I wanted a complete set of items, I'd probably only use 2 or 3 skills for Magic Finder if I had to do it all over again.
