Kazaul and Elythara were deities that people used to believe in before.
Nowadays, the people put their trust in the rulers of Feygard or in the Shadow.
The concept of the Shadow was based on the former worshippers of Kazaul,
but the people that follow the Shadow do not approve of Kazaul.
Some people still worship the old gods, and their altars can be found throughout the land.
There has been rumors of cults following the old gods.

Soon there will be only The Shadow... I will vipe out those lesser deities and small forces like Feygard...I will feast with the flesh of their followers ...

As far as I can see, this is the situation.
-Feygard vs Thivesguild.
-Feygard vs Shadow.
-Kazaul vs Shadow.
-Kazaul vs Elythara.
-Elythara vs Shadow.
Then, this is how the people ally themselves with the gods, defilers, goddesses, and the law.
Nor city & Vilegard ally themselves with the Shadow.
Backwater ally themselves with Kazaul, defiled of the temples.
Feygard & Crossroads Guardhouse ally themselves with The law.
Fallhaven, Loneford, are both torn in half with two loyalties. Fallhaven struggles between thieves guild and the law. Loneford struggles with the Shadow and the law.
Crossglen and Prim are neutral.
Then This is how some factions treat each other:
Elythara supports order and therefore the law, and is against the chaotic Shadow.
Kazaul, the defiler, is logical and his followers do not believe in Gods, therefore are against all deities.
The thieves guild doesn't care about the other factions, only what will bring it the most profit. As the law is against it, and thievery works best in shadowy and chaotic places, they will work against any semblence of order, meaning they will fight the law and are independent of the gods.
This is about what I can understand of the game's factions after lots of pondering.
