I agree, it should be an option.

maybe options should be like:

"Never ask..."
"Always ask..."
"Ask only if overwriting a different game" (with different character)

What I like to do is to keep two levels saved for each character (see below).
I kind of like this new save message because sometimes I'll overwrite the wrong save slot.

Check user name and exp level?
If username doesn't match and/or exp being saved is not greater or equal to saved exp, then warn?

Good approach. But IMO we should use user name and level instead of user name and xp level.

If one dies and looses exp there should be no extra warning about this.
However if I am trying to overwrite an level 100 with a level 5 char the game should warn me.
