Actually I like the crosses. They are the strongest religious symbols I know. If you replace them by some symbol that has no meaning in our world, people wouldn't recognize them as religious symbols anymore.

I'm not so sure about the crosses. I believe that we are not meant to know whether the gods exist or not throughout the game, as they themselves are irrelevant and it is only their followers that exist. Like in the real world, gods won't appear all the time or all of a sudden to make divine interventions to our daily lives.

what better way to get back into the swing of things...
than to draw something dark - like a headstone?
