I personally do what you suggested and go around doing whatever quests i can find that don't require a lot of risk
Calomyran Secrets
Taste is Everything
Breakfast Bread
Rats!
Missing Husband
Disallowed Substances <---- You can get a good start on this one
Lost Sheep [and/or] Cheap Cuts
Feyguard Errands
Uncertain Cause
Spies in the Foam
Flows Through the Veins <---- you can usually finish all but the last fight of this (depending on your choices)

Pyrizzle wrote:A basic idea:
Guy in Crosslgen needs XXX from Fallhaven: he gives you money to go get it and tells you the way, at the end he also warns you not to venture to far north or south otherwise you might be attacked by the rabid animals found in the areas around town. Maybe at the end he gives you a Ring of +2 Damage and tells you that you might stand a better chance now.
Sounds good to me!
Maybe villagers / other NPCs could give other hints, too (maybe fortune-cookie style?)
"Be sure to hit them before they hit you."
"Did you save recently, kid?" (Was now several times exploring round the crossroads just to find out you shouldn't cuddle every frog.) ;)
"Don't enter the dungeon naked" (Larn/Hack)

I think these are great suggestions....have NPC's giving this kind of basic game info. maybe even have the weapons smith in Crosglen mention something about the combat system, like how some weapons have a higher attack cost, meaning less swings during combat...or the inn keeper whom sells the food, add a comment about it benefits.

There has always been talk of adding more 'tutorial' quests but most of work is spent on extending the later game content (for obvious reasons). There a few in the works, and if I remember correctly there are a few in Crossglen that have more of a surroundings type tutorial. We can't really have tutorial quests regarding to much in the sense of combat or how things work because they're subject to change in the future. When the game is finished there will be much more balance, and the start of the game can be made more straightfoward and help guide you on the right path.

I think adding a few more NPCs around that give you game tips is a fantastic idea!

+1

Can we put warning signs near high level mob areas that say maybe " Arulirs and Brutes up ahead. Proceed at your own risk."?

I say no way. Exploring at your own risk is half of what makes the game great!!
Let's not deter others from enjoying the exploration.

Well, after all I find it not so bad anymore. It's a little bit learning by experience. ;)
And after you've made about level 10 and have some modest gear you're not knocked down by every ant anymore.
And in another thread there's discussion about teleporting home by getting killed. Can be neat if you are far away from home and can continue until you've just leveled up, so not losing much XP.
Gaaah, those damn flies, they're EVERYWHERE!!!

Warning
What lies beyond those flies can be a tough time for a lv17.

I agree. Will maybe try again now (lvl24) after stacking up with BMP and meat. :)
