how do you get to the basilisk. it won't let me approach and I cannot talk to the brother. what do i do?

Wait, now that I checked my inventory i actually don't?...this is so confusing
I don't have it in my inventory too. I remember picking it up during the first part of the quest... I'm stuck now, the character keep telling me to find the mirror when I go near the basilisk but the basket doesn't have one? Did i accidentally sell it? Is it possible to sell it? I'm so confused rn. Do other walls contain a mirror too? Can I get another mirror by buying from an NPC?...;(

Oh OH, why is the hand mirror categorised as a shield? So misleading lmao. Was searching through the 'other' and 'quest item' categories all this while cuz my inventory is too long ..

Well, ig I'll equip it and kill the basilisk. >.>
