20 sp in mf = 20 Skill Points in Magic Finder

The skill says it boosts your chances of finding Magic items by 50%. That is 50% of the original drop chance. I'm not good at math, but I guess that if 1/10000 is the original drop chance, one point in Magic Finder makes it 1.5/10000

It's just luck. Nothing else has any effect. It's not clear from your post whether you have tried this twice, once with 1 level of MF, and once with 3 levels, or if you started with 1 level, and now have three levels. Anyway, here's the chance of getting an extraordinary or legendary item with 1 level of MF:
Prob of Ext of Leg Item - 1 level MF.png
Here's the chance with 3 levels of MF:
Prob of Ext of Leg Item - 3 levels MF.png
With 2500 small rocks you have about 10,000 kills, so for 1 level of MF you have been rather unlucky (there's a 20% chance of not getting a RoLS with that many kills). For 3 levels of MF, you have been very unlucky, but about 1 in 10 players with 3 levels of MF will still not have a RoLS after 10,000 kills so you are not alone.

This table shows the number of kills required for a 90% chance of getting a legendary item, for different levels of MF:
Prob of Ext of Leg Item 90% vs levels MF.png
That should give you a better idea of what MF actually does for you.

i have 5k+ rocks, killed more than 10k gargoyle trainers, 5k+ masters and nothing, now i quit, at least it was good to stock some potions (3.3k) so its kind of okay, its a shame that the exp is "too low", it would at least work to get me a few more lvls.

Did you do all of that in one session or did you come back now and then to keep farming? Because, if it was in one session, i bow before you. Myself I did 200 rocks in one session before I wandered off for somthing else before I came back for more.

I would love to post a response here but after the 2 hour discussion I just had with my roommate on the subject of statistics... well... I'd best just let this one lie. (lie down, not lie deceive - just in case that wasn't obvious).

I killed over 20 000 gargoyle trainers and masters (with 1 on mf) to get the first RoLS...

Also with the 2 characters around almost 50 000 legendary kills (half of them with 1 on mf) and got only 2 legendary items :-( (Based on the standard chances I should have around 6 --> with 0 on mf it means around 1/30 000 success rate)

Second character is lvl 50 with 12 000 kills and nothing.

So, believe me, you might have still quite many miles to go!

not to be rude, but for you people that complains alot about the "low droprate", I agree with you but if you got the patience you could just hunt when you want to waste time (don't take the hunting for RoLS for example, too seruoisly) -AND SUDDENLY YOU FIND RoLS, I got 2x RoLS at my lvl 65 character..and no points into MF, I consider it as a quite useless skill. But that's just my opinion! :D

cheers!~
