+1 to getting both levels of Combat Speed ASAP. After that, yes, I'd consider a point in Cleave. It can come in very handy especially when you already have a 2-3 AP cost attack (meaning you get an extra attack each time you kill a mob). The lower your attack cost, the more useful Cleave becomes.

If i was more inclined to use the Prerequisites (HH and WA), I'd be waaaaay more likely to actually use cleave.

Of course. I think we all would be. These prerequisites is what deters us and is what makes cleave not that attractive of an option.

Unfortunately, if the future of AT will be aggro mobs, cleave will be a necessity to make your life easier.

It will never be all aggro... there will be some balance, but you have not seen the last of aggro NPCs. That is for sure.

They will only get smarter and smarter as new releases come out and the Dev teams grows with new talented Developers.
