Hey, everybody. You all get a free shot to chew me out for not reading ALL of the thread, but I have a simple question:
Because I'd like to have my cake and eat it too. I'd like to know if my way to play either version of Andor's Trail on the same Android device will work?
Because I've been having a blast getting back into AT again after a year off, and of course (yay) we have the new 0.72 Beta to try out. Here is my question. I realize that you
CANNOT have both the 0.71 and 0.72 installed simultaneously on the same device. But I have an idea and I'm wondering if my procedure would work to give me what I want. Please understand that the description that follows may sound complicated, when you get right down to doing it, it's not hard at all, you just need to be careful.
To begin, here are the preparation steps I'd take. These steps are a one-time thing and you won't need to do them again on your current device:
- On your internal storage, verify that there is a folder called "andorstrail", which we will call \andorstrail
- Create an ATSave folder in the internal storage which will be referred to as \ATSave. Do NOT create it inside the andorstrail folder. Keep it as a top-level folder on your device's internal storage.
- Within \ATSave, create two sub-folders: AT71 and AT72. I will refer to these 2 sub-folders as \ATSave\AT71 and \ATSave\AT72.
Once those 3 steps are done you are ready to try out the swapping procedure which are basically the next 6 steps. And for purposes of this discussion, we'll assume that you currently have 0.71 installed and are using it for your characters.
- (1) Copy (not move) the entire contents of the \andorstrail over to \ATSave\AT71
- (2) Uninstall the Andor's Trail app from your device. (You have to do whenever you want to downgrade from 0.72 to 0.71. And for safety sake, I'd do it when upgrading from 0.71 to 0.72 just to be careful)
- (3) Install Andor's Trail v0.72 Beta
- (4) Delete the contents of the \andorstrail folder. Not the folder itself, just it's contents. And yes, this is the risky step because you need to make sure you've made the copies I mentioned in Step 1.
- (5) Copy (not move) the contents of \ATSave\AT72 over to \andorstrail
As I said earlier, in the above 6 steps it assumes that you are changing from 0.71 to 0.72 and that you've already backed up (copied) the contents of the \andorstrail folder containing your 0.72 data to the storage location:
\ATSave\AT72. If you want to go from 0.72 to 0.71, just change Step 1 so you copy from
\andorstrail to
\ATSave\AT72, change Step 3 to install Andor's Trail 0.71 and change Step 5 so that you copy from
\ATSave\AT71 over to
\andorstrail.
With regard to what app you can copy stuff with, my own personal choice is an app called X-Plore because it does a dual-pane display (showing only one pane at a time and you can switch to show the other pane for a SOURCE and TARGET for your copying). I'm sure that other File Managing apps would probably work just as well, but… YMMV.
I'm tempted to write out in excruciating detail everything to describe this in order for there to be as little doubt about what I mean, but I'm going to stop myself and allow you folks to ask me if I was not clear about anything. Although I could assume you know this next warning, I'm still going to say it anyways. Try this procedure at your own risk. If you overwrite the wrong files and you lose your SAVEGAME files, that's on you. Still, for those people who don't mind getting your hands dirty with a file manager and doing some file copying, this seems like a good way to go in order to be able to play both versions of AT (sadly, not simultaneously
) Anyways, please let me know about any questions you may have.
And on that note, I have a question for the App designers:
In the examples I've given above, if all a person were to backup were the SAVEGAME(#) files (
SAVEGAME1,
SAVEGAME2,
SAVEGAME3, etc), and DIDN'T backup the WORLDMAP folder, how much would it hurt? Does the WORLDMAP folder get repopulated as you enter areas? The way I see it, If you left it be and went from having a character that hasn't seen much of the world to a character that has seen much of the world, would you need to re-visit those areas to get the map again? And of course, this question doesn't even take into consideration any changes in Dhayavar (the World) between 0.71 and 0.72.
Any comments?
