I found an aggression chance in the code after posting (didn't look first since I never did Java before).

Sorry about the mistake, but thanks for clearing it up Samuel! :)

I'm going to +1 myself for coming up with an awesome topic! Then +2 (is that allowed?) to Samuel for answering it.

I know you guys said it wasn't possible, but I just got attacked diagonally. I wish I could take a screen shot. I took a picture with my camera and took a picture of that with my phone. I can text it to someone if they know how to upload it here. Anyway I'll try to explain in the meantime. Heading out of the cave where the three monsters line up behind the fence I was running diagonally down the wall to sneak into the corner so I could fight them one at a time going L to R. When I got to the spot just above the monster on the far left the middle one attacked me from my southeast and hit me first. Since these monsters don't move in any direction when all 3 are present (and since people said they can't move diagonally anyway) they must be able to attack diagonally. Just a word to the wise if someone was going to augment their build based on that previously obtained, but false information...

Just tested it again. It is definitely reproducible. Back by that 'V' where you can play & pause, on the right side pair you can stand above and to the right of the top one. It took a matter of seconds for him to attack me.

You can get attacked from a mob that is on any tile directly around the tile you are on. So you can get attacked from 8 ways.

If you managed to get attacked by 8 baddies at once there should be some penalty to your stats for being surrounded like that. No mortal could survive that craziness.

Great post! +1

You may upload any file to your post. You can also draw how the map looks like with a code tag. (As I did in my post)

The only chance they get first strike is when they start to walk. (and walk into you) Currently monsters can only walk horizontal or vertical:

Have you really put 4 skill points to evasion?

See here:

Not with 4 skill points to evasion. See the post he is obviously refering to:
