Good Luck guys. I have spends hours, days, even weeks worth of time searching for one. Hopefully the Magic Finder Skills will help ppl get them a lil faster now.
I have sooooo many rocks I'm thinking of making a lil zen garden to cure the crazies from searching

So I got all this red stuff that looks like fire, all these rocks and all this blue stuff that looks like water. I know i'll open up a chain of saunas and pay the gargoyles millions to give me 2 rings... Or maybe i'll just steal them from people in my saunas

Where can I search for RoLS and do I need to keep gems and small rocks. I have been selling them up until now. Thanks

Check the Extraordinary & Legendary items topic here for info on where to go:

As for the counter items (small rocks or gems), no you don't need to keep them as they do not have any effect on whether or not you get the RoLS. Its just used to estimate how many Gargoyle Trainers and Masters you've killed. But the odds are calculated at each kill so even if you're about to kill your 10,000th Trainer/Master, it doesn't mean you'll get a ring.
Happy hunting!

There is another topic called (approx.) "How many kills for your RoLS?" Many of the numbers of kills, as measured by the small rocks, are quite low (400-600 rocks, or 1600-2400 kills). On the other hand, I got 7501 rocks before the skill points came out, or 30,000 kills, plus a little over 1250 more rocks with 2 magic finder skill points (= double chance to 1:5000), before I finally had a ring drop--on the morning of Thanksgiving Day! So all the rock number tells you is how many kills you have made, which has no relation to when you actually get the ring. By the numerical odds of 1:10,000, I "should" have 4 rings now, not 1.
Of course, if you wish to be eligible for the presidency of the Too Cool for the RoLS Club (see topic of that name), you need a reasonably accurate number of your total rock count, whether you have them in your possession or have sold them.
Edit: Here is the link to the Too Cool for RoLS Club

That overall, was a good post to consider. Without factoring in the law of probability, after every eligible kill you make, you have the same chance of obtaining a Ring of lesser Shadow. By using your skill points towards "Magic finder", you increase your chance percentage for every level of the skill.
During the course of playing my 2nd and current build, I spent many, many levels trying to acquire a ring. Eventually, after traveling around elsewhere for a good period of time and now having level 3 of "Magic finder", I spent a few levels trying again. With a total rock collection of 3,329 (none of which were from any other location), I finally got one. I am still working to get a 2nd.
